Motherhood is hard. It’s mostly hard because it’s lonely and feels so utterly isolating in our experience of it all. It’s easy to get caught up in how our situation differs from other moms, when we should be looking for just the smallest similarities, because they are definitely there. More importantly, despite the differences, the struggles and insecurities are where we need to create bonds. We all feel that we’re alone in those struggles, but we aren’t.
If you’re ever felt alone in them, read Danielle Dowling’s ‘Good Girl, Bad Mom’ because she gets to the guttural moments of what the process looks and feels like. Most importantly, know that you aren’t alone!
Pre-order now: available in February!

Note: Danielle was one of my favourite clients to work with and I’m beyond proud of this accomplishment. This book is going to draw some tears, so grab your Kleenex!

Sometimes I get the feeling that some of my clients think I 100% of the time have my work s**t together. LOL

While operationally my business runs smoothly, there are lots of admin tasks on the backend (maybe I need to hire a Virtual Assistant!!) that sometimes just get shuffled in and amongst other tasks.

One specific thing (almost embarrassingly so...) is that I switched phones last January. 1.5 years ago. There are a number of things I still use on that old phone so I've become one of those two-mobiles-people who switches back and forth.

One thing that did not work (much to my frustration and hours of wasted time) was my work email. I can receive and read emails on my new phone but I could not send.

For a while it worked on my old phone still and that recently also quit working so I've been limited to just sending correspondence on my computer. Not a biggie - I do the biggest chunk of my work through my computer. But today my work email on my laptop stopped working!! NOT IDEAL. What is happening??

I have an email through Private email with Namecheap. I know all the techy geeky stuff that goes along with it, but sometimes these things sneak past even me. I had to contact their chat support. They're great! Two thumbs up for Namecheap all around - I think they're great to work with and their domains are affordable... but I digress.

In getting my email situation resolved today, I asked their support if they could also help me get it working on my phone. They sent me a Namecheap walkthrough. So much more helpful than what Google provided me. The port number that worked on my old phone wasn't the same that it now needed. Here I thought duplicating it all would work brilliantly! My mistake lol

All of this (sorry for the long story) to say that I can now send emails from my phone. My actual phone, not my old work phone. It only took 1.5 years to deal with it.

I prioritize my clients' issues over my own quite often, and that's okay with me. My point is though.... I get it. Not all business-related things get the opportunity to become a priority. Sometimes they just get handled as they come across your desk and sometimes you just need to hire someone.

Snow Day!!

I’m sure for a lot of business owners, having their kids skip a school day throws a wrench into their work from home schedule big time…

My kid and I have a pretty good system though. Quality time spent together in bursts with fun activities: board games, play-doh (a personal favourite) and even playing Harry Potter (we have lots of wands… and lots of Harry glasses). Don’t forget the countless snacks…

So while I didn’t get to everything on my to-do list today, I did get a visit with Spiderman, which is pretty memorable!

Do you find interruptions of your working time are becoming more frequent?
We certainly cannot predict or control when things happen. But we do know that they will.
Every week I see clients who have life happen in one way or another and they send me a list of things they want me to focus on while they are diverting their attention elsewhere. They know that someone is still keeping an eye on things, despite whatever else is happening.

But what do you do when you’re still a one-person show?
It’s definitely a lot more pressure on yourself to achieve it all when you cannot delegate even the simplest of tasks.

With January already behind us, what tools are you using into this new year to help in tackling the must-dos?

If you’re wondering whether now might be the right time to hire a Virtual Assistant, let’s chat about that. You can book a free 30 min. call with me to get a clear picture on how I would assist you and your business.

How do you keep things separate?

When it comes to social media, there have been many different, often conflicting, perspectives about how to approach what to share and how personal to get.

I’ve likely said this before but since the pandemic and all that came with it, what we are collectively seeking is connection. We don’t want the bulls**t… we want to see people for what they are, who they are, and we want to know what we’re getting into.

It’s been very common for a long, long time to show a photoshopped, picture-perfect view of our lives online. But behind the scenes is what we’ve all secretly wanted, right?

In the past two years we’ve seen many influencers break that wall down and show the mess, the fails, the negative about either their work lives, their parenting lives and their relationships.
It’s been refreshing!

But now the question remains… do you, and more importantly should you, keep your content separate between your personal and your professional lives on your social media?

We will all have a different opinion about that, and before I give you mine, I’ll give you my very basic answer.

Do what works for you.
In doing so, you’re being authentic, which is what any audience wants.

I see people that I follow each and every day combine the two and do it so effortlessly.
How? Because they’re comfortable doing so.
It may not always be comfortable in the beginning. But the more you share, the more authentic you can be, the more your content will resonate with your audience… no matter what you post: personal or professional.

So if you want to blend the two, do so. Be open about the parts you want to share. Talk about whatever comes to mind…. Whether it’s work related or it’s something personal. The point is that you share. Connect.

So let’s talk about websites. I see so many conversations online about what on earth to be at when you want to get a web...

So let’s talk about websites.
I see so many conversations online about what on earth to be at when you want to get a website, you don’t know who to host it with, where to buy your domain, etc.

Let’s break it down!

-> Having a website is a great way to promote your business, but it has to be utilized so that it’s not effort or money down the drain. We’ll talk about that.

A website is a perfect place to sell your physical product, to showcase your journey with a direct sales company, to collect longer written content and it can be a hub, essentially, to showcase all the aspects of your business, what your services options are and how to contact you.

These days, a website can showcase your latest Instagram posts, it can hold a collection of blog posts (which is a plus if you’re looking to be found through search engines because the more written content you have on your website means that you have more keywords people can search for and can be used for sites like Google to send people your way)… your website can home your testimonials, your products, it can filter your audience to your email list, and it can also direct them to your LinkedIn page or YouTube channel, as just a couple of examples.

Your website is a blank canvas where you can show your audience anything you want, in the way that you want.

You can direct them to other areas, based on whatever your goals are for your business. Maybe you are a new restaurant and you want to have a grand opening… you can display beautiful culinary photos, share a link to the Facebook event where people can RSVP and engage with you about the event, you can also connect them to a landing page where perhaps you sell online cooking classes or a membership. The options are nearly endless with a website.

If you’re just starting out and you’re looking for a website, message me to chat about what you want to show your audience and I’ll go through how we can most efficiently build that in a super affordable way.

If you’re frustrated that your current website isn’t what you want it to be, let’s do an audit. I’ll map out the changes that will really make your site more accessible and more inviting for your audience.

This might be one of those unpopular opinion posts, because my perspective on this might be out of the norm.

I think as long as you’re happy with the amount of sales or engagement that you’re seeing for your business then you’re doing enough on social media. Just stay consistent!

Not seeing the sales that you want?
Then you need to do two things: re-evaluate how often you’re posting AND take a hard look at what you’re posting.
If your content is hard to connect with, or you’re missing the mark on asking for that call to action, then you are likely missing out on potential sales.

Don’t waste time guessing what you need to do. If it feels like you are posting too little, maybe too much, there is something that isn’t working and we can figure out what that is … and create a plan that will give you results.

I follow people online who post online a few times a week and do great with their engagement and conversions of interest -> sales.
I also follow people who post every day throughout the day and they are killing it with engagement and their business is doing awesome!

It has to feel right for you - but what you are posting is much more important than how often you post.

Let’s review your content and create a consistent, engaging feed of material for your audience.

Book a call with me to chat about what that looks like - it’s free!
