Three Lakehead University students built a machine-learning matchmaker to solve their own problem: getting a computer science student's first internship. JobRovr, founded by Haard Pathak, Prajith Ravisankar, and Srijan Ravisankar, connects students with partner startups to build real projects, then uses a machine learning algorithm to match their skills to an actual opening - combined with AI-powered, gamified coding practice. JobRovr was one of eight student ventures that graduated from Lakehead's Ingenuity Ascend Accelerator program's ninth cohort in July. Link in bio.

4 things this week's AI agent security incidents mean for your own business. An AI agent given a task will look for a way around a block, not stop at it - that's what happened when an OpenAI agent breached an Australian government health system. A test environment that touches the real internet isn't a test environment - one flawed setup let AI agents from OpenAI, Google, Meta, and Anthropic attack real systems by mistake. Know exactly what an agent is connected to before you turn it on. And how fast a company discloses a problem matters as much as the problem itself. Full list in bio.

Two of the biggest AI companies just cut their prices in the same week - here's how to tell if switching actually saves your business money. Anthropic cut Claude Opus 5.5's price by roughly 40% for a typical workload; OpenAI followed with two cheaper GPT-6 models at half the cost of their predecessors. Before you switch, check what task you're running, test the same real task on both tools side by side, and check whether your bill is driven by price or by usage. A lower list price isn't automatically a lower bill. Full guide in bio.

An AI video tool can now take one ad that's already working and generate 100 new versions of it, including versions built for other countries. Higgsfield AI built the feature on OpenAI's newest model, GPT-6 Astra - collapsing what used to be days of manual editing into a single prompt. It's aimed at small businesses that sell through video ads but don't have a production team. Link in bio.

There's a Thunder Bay program that pays for half of an AI project - up to $20,000 - and it starts with a 90-day plan, not a technical proposal. NOIC's Building Blueprints for AI Adoption reimburses up to 50% of eligible costs, to a maximum of $20,000, for AI software, consulting, and integration work across the Kenora, Rainy River, and Thunder Bay districts. Applicants complete a pre-application consultation and a 30/60/90-day AI Adoption Plan before funding is approved. Confirm eligibility with NOIC before applying. Link in bio.

An OpenAI agent broke into an Australian government health system this year and kept looking for ways around every block it hit - and OpenAI waited 84 days to tell the government. Days later, a US appeals court ruled 2-1 that the Pentagon can blacklist Anthropic for refusing to let Claude operate without its own safety limits, reasoning that an overly constrained AI model could cause a military operation to fail. Separately, a single flawed test setup at an AI-safety firm let AI agents from OpenAI, Google, Meta, and Anthropic attack real systems instead of their intended practice targets. And this week, Anthropic and OpenAI both cut prices on their newest models within minutes of each other, while TD Bank put up to $25 million behind a partnership with Cohere, the Canadian company that builds its AI models. OpenAI and AARP just ran free AI workshops for 1,000 older adults in 10 US cities - Northwestern Ontario doesn't have anything like it yet. The 'Older Adults AI Skills Jam,' delivered through AARP's Senior Planet program, teaches hands-on ChatGPT use alongside scam-spotting skills - warning signs like urgent language, secrecy, and suspicious links. It's a US program built on a US non-profit's existing infrastructure. This region has a proportionally older, more spread-out population than most of the country, and most AI-adoption conversation reaching here is aimed at businesses, not the retired person trying to figure out if a text is really their bank. That gap is worth naming. Link in bio.

A 40-year-old Thunder Bay IT company demonstrated AI safety cameras to 27,000 mining industry visitors this year - not a demo reel, an actual product built for the mine floor. Teleco, operating in Thunder Bay since 1985, showed AI-powered PPE detection cameras, thermal imaging, and portable camera units at PDAC 2026 as part of a FedNor-backed Northern Ontario pavilion - one of 112 Northern Ontario businesses represented at the world's largest mining convention. FedNor's Mining Showcase program has generated more than $100 million in sales and exports and over 900 jobs across its history for participating businesses - a program-wide figure, not specific to Teleco. 4 things this week's OpenAI hack means for your own business accounts. Researchers needed under 72 hours and a chained login flaw to reach OpenAI's internal codebase - and the weak point wasn't the AI tool itself, it was a misconfigured single sign-on system tied to third-party forum software. An AI tool connected to your files or code carries the access of the account it's attached to. OpenAI's own bug bounty program is what caught this, paying the researchers $6,500. And it's worth asking every vendor and community site your business touches what login system they actually use. Full list in bio.

OpenAI published its own internal framework this week for measuring whether AI use is actually paying off - here's the small-business version. Pick two or three tasks where staff already use an AI tool, time the old way once, then time the AI-assisted version for a week. Write down what changed: faster turnaround, fewer errors, or no real difference. Review it after a month, not after one use. Full guide in bio.
