When I started my business, I had next to nothing.
I bought a tiny, old, second-hand 11-inch laptop online so I could get back into writing.
No clients.
No experience.
No office.
No desk.
And not much clue of how I would change all of that.
(But I did)
I worked hours, days, weeks, and months just from the couch and my bed.
I remember it was a HUGE deal to me when I had made enough money to be able to buy myself a desk and tuck it in a small corner of my bedroom.
To a new business owner, that feeling was ✨everything✨
Since then, I’ve bought a new desk and have had several iterations of my workspace.
It’s no secret that I’ve dealt with sleep issues, burnout, anxiety, and depression. And a lot can vary from day to day, depending on my overall wellness.
So, I’ve found myself working from the couch a lot lately. Sometimes, with the TV on in the background.
For some fu**ed up reason, I told myself that this was bad.
I should be at my desk and be more productive. But before I got too hard on myself, I decided to get curious and look more closely.
I had some good bouts of work at my desk but often got restless; brain fog seemed to set in faster, and I felt more pressure to get s**t done - which had the opposite effect on my work output. I don’t like to force things.
And when I looked at how I worked from the couch, I was calmer, was more likely to do my morning journaling/reading, felt less pressure, created from a more relaxed, passionate place, and actually got more s**t done most days.
All this to say:
You’re allowed to do things your way. Don’t let what others do mean s**t about how you have to operate. ✌️
