Canada and the United States did not get a trade deal.
High-stakes negotiations in Washington collapsed late Friday night as the midnight deadline approached, and the U.S. proceeded to impose 50 percent tariffs on billions of dollars in Canadian goods.

Key updates from the breakdown:

Talks Collapsed:
According to U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, Canada declined to finalize the agreement under the discussed terms and walked away from the table, citing last-minute new demands and walkbacks.

Tariffs Imposed:
The failure to secure an agreement means 50 percent U.S. levies on categories including dairy, alcoholic beverages, and a wide array of manufacturing, electronics, and building materials have taken effect.

Stance from Ottawa:
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stressed that Canada would not accept one-sided conditions or rush into an unbalanced agreement.

A Chinese company reportedly handed employees a staggering $320 million in cash bonuses, with workers carrying stacks of money home. Massive employee rewards like this can create an extraordinary workplace moment, especially when the bonus is handed out in physical cash rather than simply appearing in a bank account. For the employees receiving it, payday suddenly became an unforgettable experience.

Ontario Woman, Kaileigh Hogan Arrested at U.S.-Canada Border Over Alleged $43K Gold and Silver Theft

A 25-year-old Ontario woman, Kaileigh Hogan of Beamsville, has been arrested in the United States in connection with the alleged theft of more than US$43,000 worth of gold and silver in Pennsylvania.

Bensalem Township police say the theft occurred on May 11 after Hogan allegedly claimed to be the rightful recipient of a package containing precious metals, signed for it and left with the goods.

Investigators used licence-plate readers, surveillance cameras and other technology to track the vehicle allegedly used in the theft. Police say Hogan later returned the rental vehicle and flew to Arizona.

An arrest warrant was issued, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection was notified. On July 5, Hogan was arrested while attempting to cross into Canada at Lewiston, New York.

She faces charges including forgery, theft by unlawful taking and theft by deception. Her bail was set at US$100,000, and she remains in custody at Bucks County Correctional Facility.

The allegations have not been tested in court.
