Honoured to have my painting of the Peacekeeper selected for the Woodland Cultural Centre’s (WCC) monumental 50th anniversary for its Indigenous Art 2025: 50th Annual Juried Exhibition. Under the guidance and expertise of this year’s guest curator, Alex Jacobs-Blum, and artistic director Jake Jamieson, the exhibit will be open to the public until September 30, 2025. This photo was snapped at the opening, the day before Indigenous Peoples Day.

Remembering all our relatives who were forced to attend residential schools. Like my uncle, pictured here, and my many other uncles and aunties who were forced to attend the mush hole.

We remember all our relatives who survived, and the ones who did not.

Indigenous people living in urban areas has always been a neglected topic in the public discourse, particularly the challenges they face and the colonial influences that continue to impact their experiences in the city. We are honoured to bring these issues to light in collaboration with the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples in their 2019 Research Report, "Urban Indigenous People: Not just passing through".

The front cover shows one of the four sacred medicines in Indigenous culture, sage, coming out of a crack of concrete, illustrating an analogy on the presence of the Indigenous community within urban areas and their growth over the years. The theme of the four sacred medicines: sage, cedar, to***co, and sweetgrass continues throughout the rest of the report as an extension of the front cover concept.
