SUPPER WITH SYRIA Campaign to make a new home for Syrian people. After having raised almost twice the original goal, Supper With Syria has grown into something much bigger.

Supper With Syria started as a community fundraiser to help sponsor two Syrian refugee families in a Toronto neighbourhood. We call on communities across Canada to host suppers with Syria and we offer all our marketing resources to help make this happen. Welcome to the Supper With Syria Movement. Dear friends,

As we mentioned yesterday, Canadian Arabic Orchestra is now accepting new students. Please send your aspiring musicians to immerse in the world of Arabic, modern and classical music - with their wonderful director, Wafa Al Zaghal. We also recommend you see them live. Those of you who attended our Supper With Syria in 2015, will remember what a show they put on!

Dear friends:

We are looking for one or two musicians (tabla and violin perhaps?) to help us host a small break-bread dinner with the SWS families at Black Rock Coffee & Bar on June 28th. We will feed you and introduce you to many friends in the community.

Hello friends, and happy Ramadan!

Thought we'd bring you up to date on the Al Ahmads:

Omar is learning English with the help of two volunteer teachers (one of whom is ESL certified). He hopes to beef it up enough to apply for electrician's license.

In the meantime, Omar is looking for an inexpensive car so he could start driving for Uber and support his family financially.

Omar's wife and daughter, Rajaa and Hassneh, are both in ESL school and are enjoying it. Hassneh is anxious to get a part time job. She's been dropping off her resumes at local businesses. Hassneh's little boy, Hussein, has started subsidized daycare – which has freed up Hassneh's time.

Omar's and Rajaa's teenage son, Ahmed, is looking for a summer job as a mover. He's made a lot of friends at school (lots of girls, says Hassneh and rolls her eyes).

Ismail, Hassneh's husband, works out like a fiend and helps his uncle Amar (our anchor family member) in the wood finishing shop.

Omar's brother Ibrahim is looking for a job in commercial painting. If you know anyone who needs a professional painter with 40 years of experience, please let us know.

Ibrahim's son Ahmed is working in a furniture warehouse while he looks for a course in coding. Though he has a chemist's degree, he wants to be a programmer. Any suggestions on where he can apply?

That's it for now. Cheers.

Friends: thank you for all your messages, posts, calls and emails offering ESL help for Omar. We found two wonderful volunteers - a retired ESL instructor, and another gentleman with some free time - to get Omar's English skills in shape and get him ready for certification exam this summer. Shoukran!

Friends: as our families adjust to life in Canada, challenges arise. Would any of you be able to assist with the following:

1. If you are a contractor, would you be interested in bringing on board an experienced (35 yrs) licensed electrician?

2. Do you have $20, $30, $50 lying around? Would you be willing to spend it on a gift card to Cosco or Walmart? Groceries are expensive and take up a lot of their monthly budget.

Please contact us via message or on [email protected]

Share this post with friends (vs liking).

Thank you.

The Syrian civil war separated the Elendaris until an exceptional alliance — between a Thornill, Ont., mosque and a synagogue — brought them together in Toronto.
