Christmas is quickly approaching and for many small businesses, this is the most important time of the year. Here are 5 tips for success with your marketing this holiday season:
✔️ Know your customer, and know what they need this time of year. Identify your customer’s pain points so you can solve their problems. Remember: people don’t buy products, they buy solutions.
✔️ Let your customer get to know you. People like to buy from people. Build a connection with your customers with personal content, being genuine, and giving them a BTS view of your businesses to build rapport and gain trust. Remember: social media is all about building relationships.
✔️ Tap into emotion. This time of year is an especially great time to appeal to emotion. Not everyone makes emotional decisions when it comes to purchasing, but many of us do. What emotion do you want to inspire in your customers/followers? Remember: it’s great practice to ask yourself this question with every piece of content you create.
✔️ Don’t get afraid to sell. Sometimes we’re afraid to sell “too much” on social, and there is something to be said about striking that balance between being too “salesy” and finding a way to sell without being too obvious about it. But if there’s ever a time to get your sales pitch out there and be reminding your customers of your product or service – now is the time! Remember: make your sales pitch about your customer and what you can do for them.
✔️ Take a break. Remember to take some time for yourself, you deserve a break too. Batch your content, recycle it, and take a break from social for a while if you need to. Enjoy your holidays so you can recharge your batteries and hit the ground running in the new year. Remember: just because social media doesn’t sleep doesn’t mean you shouldn’t.

Are you a new business or brand, looking for the right marketing help to get you off to a strong start?
It’s important to find the right marketing help, and avoid the costly delay of having to start over after hiring the wrong person or agency. Here are a few tips to consider to help you find the right marketing support for your business:
✔️ Broad experience = a better perspective. Look for someone with enough experience and perspective to understand your business and your needs as a whole. Avoid hiring specialists who are experts on their niche, as you’ll be lacking expertise in important areas. For example, an SEO specialist may be great at what they do, but lack an understanding of overall strategy. Specialists can be brought in on a project-by-project basis as needed.
*Note: be cautious of people who claim to specialize in everything - it’s impossible!
✔️ Referrals > Resume. We all know someone who has lied on a resume, and in today’s digital world it’s especially easy to claim to be an expert. Look for someone with a proven track record, or better yet - someone who comes highly recommended from someone you know and trust.
*Note: be extra cautious of anyone who is secretive of past clients, unable to provide a portfolio or examples of past work, or who doesn’t have testimonials or reviews to vouch for them.
✔️ Trust your gut. Your business is your baby, and you need to feel comfortable and confident with trusting your baby with a marketing professional. In your search for the right marketer, you may come across plenty of qualified and capable people, but it just doesn’t feel “right”. Trust your instincts. The individual or company in question may be fully qualified but they don’t quite understand your vision, or don’t quite align with your company values. If that’s the case, they’re not for you.
*Note: don’t be afraid to explore several different options. Any marketer you’d like to work with will encourage this. It’s important to explore your options and find the right fit instead of rushing into a partnership with the wrong people.

I’ve been OFFLINE for a little while, it’s true. I went on vacation (the first real vacation in 3 years I might add) and if I’m being honest, had absolutely no desire to get back on social media upon my return.

I feel no guilt, no fomo, no urgency to post. My clients know where to find me, and I’ve still got plenty of work to do. I post these reminders because I truly believe in taking breaks. Business owners need breaks, creative people need breaks, humans.. need breaks!

It’s summertime, if you feel the need to go offline for a while, I encourage you to DO IT!

If you don’t feel that’s realistic for you, at least unplug a little and enjoy some time offline for the weekend! Baby steps 😉

Here’s a productivity tip to make sure your Monday is positive and productive:
🌱On Monday morning as you read over your emails – pencil in events, meetings, and other important dates onto your calendar. Doing so will help you avoid scheduling conflicts and forgotten obligations. It’s also the perfect time to make a to-do list (if you didn’t already do this on Friday 😉) and prioritize your workload. You can’t plan every minute or anticipate every commitment, but you can get a good idea of what you have to do this week so you can take on the week proactively as opposed to reactively.
Do you have any Monday rituals that help set your week up for success?

investing 10-12 minutes in planning your day will save at least 2 hours of wasted time and effort throughout the day?
Writing a to-do list is how I keep myself on track, and while I used to swear by a Monday morning list, I’ve changed my strategy recently. Consider writing your to-do list on Friday. Here’s why:
✔️ It saves you time and effort on Monday morning when you’re trying to wrack your brain to remember what happened last week
✔️ It helps you unwind from the week, by taking note of what didn’t get done this week and what’s top priority for next week, you can head into your weekend with work off your mind!
Are you a fellow list-writer, or do you have another method for planning and prioritizing important tasks?

Today is , and I’m going to give you 3 good reasons to give your social feeds and following a good ‘clean up’ by removing any accounts or groups that are no longer serving you. Let’s stay friends though, okay? 💁🏻‍♀️
1. If it doesn’t make you feel good, ditch it. Your explore page should be filled with content that makes you feel happy, informed, inspired, and encouraged. Does following that instagram model or fitness influencer make you feel bad about yourself? Unfollow! Does staying connected to an ex partner, friend, or colleague/client bring up negative emotions? Unfollow!
2. Control the content you see by reducing the clutter. Back to point number one, the content you consume on social should be content you actually care about. The best way to manage the content that shows up in your feed is to clean house and remove followers that aren’t posting anything of interest or of value to you. This way there’s room for your favourite businesses, your family, friends, mentors, or your favourite meme page to show up with their content.
3. No friends are better than fake friends. This rule applies to life in general (amirite?! 🙌) but it’s especially relevant when it comes to social media. We all know those followers who silently stalk us, consuming our content but never genuinely engaging or interacting with us. You want followers who are actively engaging with you by liking, commenting, and sharing your content. Participating in your polls, sending you DMs, and producing great content themselves. It’s also important to know that your ghost followers are actually hindering your social performance. If your following is filled with these sneaky stalkers, your engagement rates are going to suck. Purge these ghost followers to make sure your content is exclusively for those who want to engage with you.
Ready to go unfriending? Here’s a tip on where to get started. From your Instagram profile, tap “followers” at the top of the screen. Tap “least interacted with”. Go down the list and click the button next to each account to unfollow.
