After hearing my clients struggle with email marketing again and again, I did something about it.

On Jan 12, I officially became a certified email list manager! Taking email marketing expert Troy Ericson’s program, and passing with a 97%.

What does that mean?

I’ve written email copy for years, helping my clients 1) show up consistently & authentically, 2) build relationships with their audiences, and 3) sell more products & services to help them.

But I noticed a recurring gap. A major problem many clients were experiencing (because email marketing is about *more* than just great copy).

Too many times, I heard prospects & clients say they didn’t get the results they’d hoped for, due to…

❌ Poor deliverability (going to spam/promotions), so no one saw them
❌ Getting sent to wrong segment/list, or at the wrong time, damaging their reputation
❌ Being uploaded incorrectly = a poor user experience + low conversions

(Or sometimes not being sent at all…)

Some clients embarrassingly admitted they didn’t send the emails because they…

❌ Didn’t understand the software
❌ Were so busy and didn’t realize the time it took
❌ Didn’t want to upload, send or set the emails up wrong
❌ Or simply forgot all together

As a copywriter, I was providing 1 piece of the puzzle — persuasive, meaningful words.

But now as a certified email list manager, I can manage your ENTIRE email marketing process from start to finish, with…

✅ Creating an email marketing strategy so you know what to say + when
✅ Writing AND sending your emails so you don’t have to
✅ Setting up automations to best serve your prospects + clients
✅ Improving & managing deliverability to make sure your emails get opened + read
✅ Performing regular list hygiene so you reach as many people as possible.

Because relationship-based email marketing is a long game, it takes time — your audience requires consistency, authenticity and MEGA value.

Email list management can be hands-off, stress-free, done-for-you — so you can focus on needle-moving tasks in your biz 💯

Whether your email list needs a boost, a welcome sequence, consistent emails or a total overhaul…

Send me a DM and let’s chat! I’ll take a peek and see what your list needs to thrive in 2024.

Well the cat’s out of the bag… 😻

Launchpad Season 5 starts TOMORROW, and I’m proudly serving as a Copy Coach in the very program that kickstarted my copywriting journey.

3 years ago, I was a burnt out content writer anxiously waiting for this program to start, taught by someone I’d never met and knew very little about.

I still identified as a freelancer, not an entrepreneur, because I hadn’t incorporated my business yet.

I had NO idea how to grow a business to 6-figures without working 16-hour days.

And my network of industry colleagues + contacts was teeny tiny.

Little did I know, my teacher would soon become my mentor and good friend that I’ve met IRL several times.

I’d grow my business to multi-6-figures without putting in the same hours.

And my network expanded *exponentially* — not just for work opportunities, but with good friends I’d send long voice notes too, meet for coffee and find scattered around the globe.

All because I took an unknowing leap 3 years ago.

I’m so grateful for the journey, and I’m excited to guide new fellow writers through the same process.

Because for me, it all started here.

CONFESSION TIME:

It took me a year to read this book.

A YEAR.

And the sad thing is, I used to love reading.

My mom always took my brother and I to the library when we were kids.

And we’d leave with 6 books to crush over the next few weeks.

I loved getting lost in the stories — mysteries, fantasies, dramas.

(Nancy Drew fans, anyone?!)

But somewhere along the way, everything I consumed became about self-improvement.

— This business book, that self-help guide, another educational tool.

Reading became about being “productive.” About helping me “accomplish” something.

So after awhile, everything I consumed came with a to-do list.

Some set of actions, changes or additions that I *needed* to complete, in order to make my life “better.”

(The moral of this story isn’t to stop reading these books. I’ve learned a LOT this way.)

But solely focusing on books to help me “achieve” led to a loss…

— Reading for ENJOYMENT.

I started to avoid something I loved. Loathe it, even. “Ugh” I’d think. Or I’d get distracted the second I’d sit down, not even giving it a chance.

Because I knew my next self-improvement pick would illuminate another thing I had to, should or MUST do.

I started this particular book 3 times over the past year.

And I *finally* made it through this fall.

Guess what? It was AMAZING.

It’s a memoir about death and how our society views the whole process.

(It sounds morbid, but it’s actually quite humorous and very well written — highly recommend).

And ironically, reading about death reignited something in me.

Focusing on ME — instead of my business — allowed my brain the space to get creative and come up with new ideas.

So…

— if you’re avoiding something you love, get curious about why.

— if you’re missing something important in your life, make time for it.

— if your business is taking over your life, get clear on your priorities.

And if time is what you lack, hire someone to help you *create* your dream life.

Because you can’t get it back once it’s gone.

But you CAN control how you spend it now.

Just because you CAN do something, doesn’t always mean you *should.*

So let’s enjoy life, shall we? No loathing allowed.

Was this a mistake? 🤔

I renewed my membership for a high-level mastermind this summer.

At first, I thought “of course I’ll renew, that’s a no-brainer.”

But my schedule reached an all-time high soon after.

I was SWAMPED — fielding inquiries, completing projects & fulfilling retainers.

— Not to mention trying to enjoy summer, have a personal life & tackle big life changes.

My attention was needed elsewhere.

As the months went on, and I attended fewer sessions, not utilizing this investment…

I’d wondered if I’d made a mistake.

I hardly had time to shower — let alone sit down for 90-uninterrupted-mins/week.

I wanted to give my colleagues the full time + attention they deserved to learn, grow & connect alongside them.

Yet my workload (+ life) were FULL.

So, I had to choose. And, I chose myself.

I stopped…

— trying to check *everything* off my to-do list (bc it was impossible)

— immediately reacting to emails, messages + requests, & instead stuck to my priorities.

— trying to be everything, to everyone, all the time.

Instead, I served my clients, went on holidays, said NO to opportunities, and consciously let this commitment slip for a lil while.

And guess what?

My biz didn’t burn down, my colleagues understood, & I slowly reintegrated it when *I* was ready.

(In fact, July and Aug were my business’ highest income months EVER — go figure)

The last 6 months have been FULL of twists & turns, like…

— Being let down BIG TIME by someone I trusted (& learned a hard lesson)

— Signed my first 6-figure client, and committed a lot of my time

— Took so many vacations, you might not believe I run a full-time biz

— And perhaps the biggest: Buying a van, packing up my belongings, and setting out on an adventure with my man

NOTHING in my life has been predictable for awhile.

But I can confirm that reinvesting in a community of people who love, support & motivate you…

While you and your biz continue to grow, evolve & transform…

Was this a mistake? 🤔

I renewed my membership for the 3rd year in Alex Cattoni’s high-level mastermind this summer.

At first, I thought “of course I’ll renew, that’s a no-brainer.”

But my schedule reached an all-time high soon after.

I was SWAMPED with client work — fielding new inquiries, completing projects & fulfilling retainers.

— Not to mention attempting to enjoy Canadian summer, have a personal life & tackle some big life changes.

So my attention was needed elsewhere.

As the months went on, and I attended fewer + fewer live sessions, not utilizing this investment…

I’d wondered if I’d made a mistake.

I hardly had time to shower — let alone sit down for 90-uninterrupted-mins/week during workdays.

I wanted to give my colleagues the full time + attention they deserved.

And I of course wanted to learn, grow and connect alongside them.

Yet my workload (and life) were beyond FULL.

So, I had to choose. And, I chose myself.

I stopped…

— trying to check *everything* off my to-do list (because it was truly impossible)

— immediately reacting to emails, messages, groups and requests, and instead stuck to my priorities.

— trying to be everything, to everyone, all the time.

Instead, I served my clients, went on holidays, said NO to opportunities, and consciously let this — still important — commitment slip for a lil while.

And guess what?

My business didn’t burn down, my colleagues understood, and I slowly reintegrated it when *I* was ready.

(In fact, July and Aug were my business’ highest income months EVER — go figure)

The last 6 months have been FULL of twists and turns, like…

— Being let down BIG TIME by someone I trusted (& learned a hard, expensive lesson)

— Signed my first 6-figure client, and committed a lot of my time

— Took so many vacations, you might not believe I run a full-time business

— And perhaps the biggest: Buying a van, packing up/storing/selling my belongings, and setting out on an adventure with my man

NOTHING in my life has been predictable for the last while.

But I can confirm that reinvesting in a community of people who love, support & motivate you…

While you and your biz continue to grow, adapt, evolve & transform…

Is never a mistake.

Not when like-minded, compassionate humans from around the world have your back, and are there for you WHENEVER you need them.

Reign has always been a home away from home, & a kick in the pants when I need it.

And to now serve the community & support my fellow colleagues as a mentor has been a privilege.

Here’s what 7 days off the grid looks like — and I’m talking OFF the grid.

No emails.
No texts.
No Slack.
No cell reception.
No internet, whatsoever.

I can’t remember the last time I was offline this long.

Totally unplugged.

— not just from not my work, but everything, and everyone.

My vacations generally consist of a few nights away…

…or longer “working” trips toting my laptop around the globe.

Always connected (or not far from being).

So this forced, laptop-less hiatus was an incredible opportunity to first disconnect

— and then reconnect — with my people, nature and myself.

I crossed off a major bucket list item this past week with 2 of my favorite people.

Trekking through the wilderness on the West Coast Trail for 6-nights and 7-days with everything on my back.

And I’ve gotta say…

It was a whole new kind of “refresh.”

Don’t get me wrong — it was physically and mentally challenging

— lugging a ~37lb pack up and down rugged terrain

— conquering dirt, mud, sand, boulders, gravel, streams, roots, ladders, boardwalks

— pushing through aching backs, throbbing feet, raw skin, scratches, bruises

But to feel it? Experience it? *Earn* it?

Is indescribable. And I’m sure I’ll be processing it for awhile.

I’m so proud — of what we accomplished together.

I’m so grateful — for what the human body can do.

And I’m so freaking STOKED — to come back fully refuelled.

And get back to doing what I love here too.

Have you ever been in a hot air balloon?! 🎈

I’ve wanted to do this since I was a kid, and I got the opportunity to go last week as a promotion for my side business .

Now while I do actually like heights, there’s always a degree of anxiety when you go up in the air.

But the entire customer experience was SO smooth and well planned out.

So much so, that it made me reflect on own business and how clients experience Content by Kelsey.

Because I went into hot air ballooning totally blind — with no experience, no knowledge and a lil anxiety.

So I had to 100% lean on my guides, ask silly questions, believe their plan, and trust that the professionals would deliver on their promise.

To which they…

— sent out detailed instructions beforehand so we came prepared and had proper expectations.

— cracked jokes, explained thoroughly and shared their qualifications to put us at ease and alleviate concerns.

— took care of everything from start to finish, so that all we had to do was show up and enjoy ourselves.

Much like how my clients trust me to guide them through their marketing strategy, content creation, sales funnel, you name it.

— And just how your customers lean on you for expertise, knowledge and guidance as well.

Because creating a positive customer experience is all about understanding:

What you offer + Who you offer it too

And then designing the experience to move them from where they are right now, to where they want to be.

If you’re looking for a partner to help you co-create the best possible customer experience, let’s talk 🙋🏻‍♀️

Your email marketing qus answered 💌

“Dear Kelsey — Should I use images in my emails?”

A:

Like the words you choose to use, visual elements in your emails (like photos, graphics gifs, videos and emojis) all depend on your brand.
For example, I use emojis in my copy ✏️

But some brands don't, and I don’t use all of them — I’ve hand-selected which emojis represent my brand.

I also don’t use banner images in my emails, and prefer a text-style email, but I have clients who do.

Visual elements can enhance your message and create a brand experience when used correctly.

However, too many images, and your email sending platform may mark you as spam.

So my advice?

Use visual elements sparingly, only when they really add to your message and create a better user experience.

3 things that affect conversions (BESIDES copy) ⬇️

While copy is a vital part of any sales funnel — from your sales page and landing page to emails and ads.

But there’s MORE to conversions than just the copy itself.

➡️ For example, if you’re not sending any traffic to your sales page, who's going to buy?

It’s likely that the people who are landing there aren’t primed and ready to buy, making conversions less likely.

Having an engaged audience is important.

➡️ If you generally launch to an existing audience (from social media, emails, etc.), but you haven’t engaged in a loooong time, conversions are going to be down.

They might click out of curiosity, but they’re less likely to buy. Because you're not top of mind anymore.

I see this one ALL THE TIME.

➡️ If your audience is interested, but your assets lack specificity (what are you selling, how will it help *me,* etc.), this can massively impact conversions.

This might seem like a copy issue, but it's really about your offer.

If the benefits aren't clear, they ain't buying. It's that simple.

As a copywriter, I’ve seen all of these issues time and time again…

— and they're totally avoidable.

Curious about working on your next launch together? DM me to check our availability.

I’ve hired almost a dozen people here at Content by Kelsey over the years, and let me tell you…

This could NOT be more true.

And it's a mindset that I had to overcome before I was able to grow my team.

Is it daunting to hire? Yes.

Will it always work out? No.

But does it allow you to help more people and create a bigger impact?

Absolutely.

So why would hiring someone make you any less? It doesn't.

We all have zones of genius that we operate from.

And yours could be —

🤍 strategizing launches

🤍 running operations

🤍 creating new offers

🤍 showing up as the face of your company

My zone of genius revolves around establishing powerful brand messaging and then crafting compelling copy that upholds that messaging.

Which in turn, helps my clients facilitate seamless launches, sell-out their programs and truly connect with their audiences.

Hiring other people to help you with the tasks that fall *outside* your zone of genius (think admin, copywriting, design, operations, etc.), allows you to amplify what you are truly great at…

And outsource everything else that doesn’t light you up 🙌🏻

Just imagine what it would be like to have an entire copywriting and marketing agency at your fingertips…? 😉

DM us to apply for a discovery call.

New business owners, quick qu for you 🤍

When you're putting content, copy, campaigns, etc. out into the world, how clear are you on WHO you're speaking to?

Lately, I’ve been hearing from countless business owners who kept investing more and more into launch assets, but then got 🦗 at checkout.

Which is soo disheartening

Especially when my fellow heart-led entrepreneurs are left wondering…

“What went wrong?”

Because the hard truth is this —

Just because you launch something doesn’t mean people will buy it.

A LOT goes into launching a new product or service, and understanding how to attract your ideal clients is part of that.

A few ways you can do this are —

🤍 Organic traffic (where people seek you out)

🤍 Paid traffic (i.e. from ads)

Both of these methods have their cons, relying on algorithms, word-of-mouth or spending tons on ads.

But there’s a better way.

My favourite and the most consistent way of reliable traffic —

and what you could consider BEFORE your next launch —

Is to build a community 🙌🏻

🤍 Because a community is built on relationships, relatability, likeability and trust.

If done right, they can foster ideal clients who are ready and WAITING to buy from you.

But how do you build a community like this? Glad you asked…

As I’ve been laser-focused on community building this month (and psst, I wrote a whole blog all about it)

Notice how I said “audience” and not “subscribers?" This is an important distinction…

I see this mistake allllll the time, businesses referring to their audience members as "subscribers"

which is easy to do when you're looking at the numbers

and not real humans.

But we need to flip the script ⏪

And reframe this perspective when you approach email marketing —

Because the people who sign up for your emails are… REAL PEOPLE.

Who chose to show up, and listen to *you*…

They traded something for you to gain this privilege.

And they're starting to (or already) know, like and trust you…

So it's your job to keep this trust, treat them well, and listen to what they want.

If you can do this, they'll likely stick around.

💁🏻‍♀️ But guess what? They can leave at any time.

So it's important for you to keep their needs and their interests top of mind — 24/7.

If you want to grow your email audience, peep my tips by swiping through the carousel.

The sweetest sound a copywriter can hear 🤍

"And guess what? People started noticing!"

Lancaster Brain & Spine came to us with non-existent marketing.

Their website was cluttered, difficult to navigate, and they hadn’t posted on social media in ages.

So we had our work cut out for us, but my team and I:

🤍 Performed a total website overhaul — complete with new copy and design that reflected their brand, voice and ideal clients.

🤍 Planned, strategized and implemented a monthly content marketing strategy, that was carried out over multiple platforms.

🤍 Took them through our signature monthly process to create helpful blogs that will serve clients for the lifetime of their business.

And while we know it’s not all about the metrics…

Hearing that our support helped lead to more leads, more eyeballs and more alignment means that what we're doing works 🙌🏻
