Quality product images allow your audience and target clients to see your product on display and in-action, which builds trust in the product and its maker, and encourages people to buy when they feel confident about a product.

It’s so nice to see other business owners value branding photography and the impact it can have on their reputation and how their are perceived.

And while I will always advocate for a professional business portrait, selfies are just as important in between sessions to show the behind the scenes of your business, your life, and allow your audience and future clients to get to know the real you. Because while not everything is picture-perfect, quality photographs go a long way to tell your story.

ps: Sherry is a marketing expert so she knows what she is talking about, and its an honour to informally introduce you 🫴🏻🧡

I am just going to say this gently.

That AI-generated headshot may not be doing your business profile any favours.

I get why people use them. They are easy, fast, polished, and a lot less stressful than booking a photo session.

But here is the thing.

People do business with people.

When someone looks you up on Facebook, LinkedIn, your website, or your business page, they want to get a sense of who they are connecting with.

Not a version of you that looks a little too smooth, a little too perfect, and maybe not quite real.

A few things to think about:

🟠 Most people can spot them.

The overly perfect skin, the lighting, the background, the strange little details. It often feels “almost right,” but not quite.

🟠 It can affect trust.

If someone meets you on Zoom or in person and you look nothing like your profile photo, it can create a bit of a disconnect. Not exactly the best first impression.

🟠 A real photo feels more human.

Even if you do not love every photo of yourself, a real photo usually feels more approachable, more honest, and more connected.

And honestly, your face does not need to look flawless.

It needs to look like you.

If your current photo is outdated or you are not happy with it, consider booking a local photographer. It is one of those small business investments that can make a big difference in how people see and remember you.

And in the meantime, just take the dang photo of yourself.

Be real.

People notice.

And most of us appreciate it. 😊

What do you think about AI-generated headshots? Do they feel polished and professional to you, or do they make you pause a little?

P.S. This is an unedited photo of me after I got my hair done yesterday by Sarah at Hair Essentials in Carleton Place. It is the photo I sent to my friends and my sister to show them.

And apparently, it is also good enough to share here.

Keeping it real. 😊

I’m curious—when it comes to your professional vibe, are you more 'Classic & Polished' (think blazers and basic studio setup) or 'Lifestyle & Romanticized' (think coffee shops and home office)? 🥼☕️💻

Drop a comment with your choice! I’m doing some research for a new project and would love to know what resonates with you most.

No matter how serious or boring your business offering might feel, there is always room for a warm smile, and even some extra goofy or quirky fun (IF that’s YOUR thing!).

The not-so-secret to a successful branding photo session is planning the scenarios ahead of time, so that every image has a purpose within your marketing strategy and contributes to your goals. And if you don’t have one, then we create one, and then we brainstorm the details together, because location, wardrobe, props, lighting, and posing all play their part. Or, I can do it for you, because you have a business to run!

Send me a DM to discuss how we can customize your “must-haves” list.

Business portraits are so much more than just a head and shoulders photo—they show the world who you are, what you do, and how you make people feel.

I know you’re thinking that one photo can’t possibly do all of that, and YOU ARE CORRECT! Branding is the collection of images that share the information, evoke those feelings, and represent you as a whole.

Even with one short session, you can create multiple images that tell a similar but different story about you, about your business.

This year’s annual “Do Good, Look Good” fundraising event is one week away and I would be honoured for you to join us & walk away with beautiful images that serve a purpose in your business AND your community.
