Do you know who your ideal customer is?

My client Sarah does. She loves working with small business owners who need help with their bookkeeping. Not just that, but she loves to teach (and she’s great at it). She has 3 specific services and so many helpful thoughts that she wants to share.

Her problem was getting her website up and running. She was meaning to do it. She started DIY-ing it. She was off to a good start, but it just never really happened.

She admitted to herself that she just wasn’t going to get to it (and didn’t want to). That’s when she reached out to me to build it for her.

And so we came up with a plan that would help her market her services, share her wisdom, and even shave off admin time in her day to day. All that PLUS planning the pages and set up so that she can grow when she wants to add more things - she has big dreams.

Now she has a beautiful website that gives her that online space that she can use to grow.

Your website isn’t a resume.

If you build your website content around your business details, with all the history and details then I can almost guarantee that it’s not serving its purpose. Because your website isn’t a resume.

Your website should be focused on your customers and their needs. Start with that, then talk about you and your expertise.

Here’s an example. When I built Sarah from Boreal Business Solutions website, I helped her create wording that was focused on her ideal customer.

We talked about their problems. Their struggles in figuring out how to do bookkeeping for their business without having experience. We talked about how stressful it is to try to get things right without help. And how scary finances can be when you don’t know where to start.

And we explained that they don’t have to do it all alone. That there is help.

Then we told them about Sarah. How much she loves working with small business owners. That she has the experience and know-how to help get them on track AND to learn to do it themselves. So they can confidently care for their business.

Doesn’t that sound more interesting than if you just read about Sarah’s 15 years of experience as an accountant? Wouldn’t you be more willing to trust her when you see that she understands. That there are no stupid questions. And that she wants to see you succeed?

That’s how a website with great content can make a difference. Great website content should let your customer’s know how you help them and that they can trust you with their time and money.

A great website can help you connect with customers.

Even btter, It can also help you save time in your inbox when you have too many customers.

When you have a website directed at your ideal customer - answering all their questions and grabbing their attention, then you can use pages, blog posts, FAQ sections to answer questions - even the ones that come into your inbox.

For example: in a recent project, I helped my client Sarah build a website with content focused on the questions she gets asked regularly. Now when she gets the same kinds of questions in her inbox, she can say things like “hey so and so, I’m so glad you asked. In fact, I recently wrote a blog about this with details that can walk you through the whole process”.

She can still have a personal conversation while saving time writing similar answers over and over.

The moral of the story is that a website can help you sell, but at the same time it should absolutely serve you too.

Congratulations to Sarah from .business on your new site!

Sarah is a dream customer of mine. I have the best clients. When she approached me to do her site, I was thrilled. Last year we created the brand for Boreal Business - dreamy pretty sages and creams. I love designing for her esthetic so I was thrilled to work with her again.

But this website isn't just another pretty face.
It's FUNCTIONAL. The site is going to save Sarah time, help her communicate clearly to new and current clients, plus we built it so there's room for her to grow into her upcoming goals.

Want to take a peek? Check it out at borealbusiness.com

Thanks for trusting me with your business Sarah!

Hey service providers! Your website should serve you, not just your customers.
You want a website that helps you sell your services. Of course you do.
Consistent income is a great thing.

But what if I told you that a great website can also solve some of your problems? Like saving time. And give your current clients a better experience through things that you can automate while still giving them the personal touch?

Think of your site like a living, dynamic online being. It’s literally an online tool. It shouldn't be static. A great website can help you grow your audience, improve your communications (thus saving admin time), automate your calendar bookings, and improve your workflow. I could go on (and will if you want me to!)

Curious about how a website can be your time-saving friend? I bet I have an answer specific to your business. Send me a Dm and we can chat!

I've been working with Sarah from Boreal Business Solutions to build her the best darn website for her possible. We're nearrrrly finished and it's turned out beautifully. I can't wait to show you the finished product!

Having a website that is clearly branded is vital to building relationships with your customers. In this case, It helps that Sarah has a brand that suits her business perfectly. I can say that confidently since I was the one to help her put it together.

Since I'm very familiar with her brand (I designed the visual identity for her), building her website has been a dream.

But what if you're not ready for a professional to build your site for you? How do you plan to keep your style consistent and make sure it looks great?

When I'm planning out a website's style I like to sit down and play with styles using the brand visuals. Moodboards are one of my favouirite things, so of course I start there.

But also I like to plan with these things:

Sketching idea - just blocking out the content.
Pinterest boards for styles of sites that I like.
Canva* for playing with graphics.

*Often I use more professional software for graphics, image ajustments etc. But Canva will work great for you if you don't have those.

These resources help me get a clearer picture of how to build out the pages before I even get started. So if you're working on DIY-ing your site, I recommend you start here before you try to put things together in your site itself (I recommend Squarespace for my clients).

Want to know more about how I plan out websites? Send me a DM, I'm happy to answer your questions.

Wins! Let’s talk about them. Because we’re tired and need something good.

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I forget to really focus on the good stuff in my business. Maybe that’s progress, or even just something I’m doing that I enjoy for the sake of doing it. But sometimes Instead of focusing on those things, I look at deadlines swooshing by (personal usually) or the fact that I didn’t get such-and-such done. Even more so these days because probably like you, I’ve lost some steam because things are dragging onnnnn. We’re all exhausted right now right? It’s not just me?

So this morning I’m using past Holly’s advice and revisiting my pep-talk cheat sheet. It’s this thing I made up for myself (and shared with my pep-talk planning workshop peeps) that helps me improve my mindset by using the actual data I have to see where things are moving forward.

What it’s not - a ‘fake it and pretend everything is ok’ strategy. Those strategies are lies and they don’t work.

What it is - a simple way to look at the things that are working and that I am enjoying so I can get a little dopamine hit (a chemical in your brain that makes you feel better) to boost my motivation and get me out of a funk.

Want to do it with me? Shoot me a DM. If there’s interest I’ll do a tutorial and share the sheet.

Pivot Creative’s origin story started as most of my great ideas do - while driving in my car.

In early 2020 I had an idea rattling around my head. I wanted to create a brand studio that supported small business owners with great design AND brand strategies.

At the time almost all of my clients were retainer clients in the tourism and event industries (duh duh duhhhhhhhhhhhh *old timey foreshadowing horror music here*)

At the core of my dreams was to help businesses grow in new directions through designs and strategy. Pivot, if you will……

*yelling at the top of my lungs in the car* PIVOT CREATIVE!!!

I drove home, rushed to the computer and put in the name request. This was it. I KNEW this was the best business idea I’ve ever had.

And guess what. Covid hit a couple of weeks after. And on April 18th (after hearing the word ‘Pivot!!!” a bajillion times like we all did) I got an email confirming that the name Pivot Creative was mine.

Great timing too, because remember how I said all my contracts were in the tourism and event industry? Yeah. Lost all of them overnight.

Fast forward a bit and I’ve refined the packages and offers that I offer. I want to spend my time efficiently and doing the best work I can to help you grow your business. I love building beautiful and effective websites and brand identities to help you market yourself and grow your business.

Want to know more about what my website and branding packages can do for you? Check out the services link in my bio or DM me.

Three simple ways that a beautiful website can make your life as an entrepreneur easier:

🎉. A beautiful website shows that you've got your stuff together. It lets people know that you exist, that You're a real business, and you have great services to offer. Most importantly, It helps your customers find you!

🎉. A great website gives people information that they need to know about your services or product before they choose to buy.
A great website helps you sell to your customer - even if you don't have an online shop. Most customers do research before they buy, and your website helps them do that.

🎉. A great website can save you time.
Things like blogs and forms can help you build relationships with customers while saving time in your inbox. A blog can help you answer people's questions without having to spend an hour writing an email every time. Instead of spending lots of time in your inbox, you can send people to your website which has answers to their questions. Forms can help you get information about potential customers and whether or not they might be a good fit. Bonus points because it lets them know you're interested in learning more about them before you even meet with them.

Want to know what makes for a customer friendsly, and in turn a highly converting website?

A great website answers the important questions about your business.

It's easy to navigate.

The wording is geared towards your customer and not you.

Most importantly, Your website makes it easy for your customers to contact you and to buy from you.

Your website isn't a resume. Don’t just list off what you do.
You need to put yourself in the shoes of your customers and think:

1️⃣What do they need to know?

2️⃣ How do they buy from you?

3️⃣ What are their questions going to be?

A website that answers these questions clearly by it's words, visuals and layout means that your chances of selling your product or service will increase.

I help small businesses by creating websites that are built around these customer friendly principles. My website packages give you clear guidelines around the content that your website needs. And from there I build user-friendly, easy to navigate, effective websites that make your customers more likely to buy your product or service.

I recently had the pleasure of rebuilding the website.
They’re an expert hair and esthetic studio serving whitehorse, Yukon. Go check them out!

This website went from an outdated, not--easy-to-navigate website to something that’s fresh, exciting and really easy to use.

Now they have a custom website that helps clients book easily, find all the service and retail information they need plus get insight on the professional and inviting vibes you’ll get while in their studio.

Don’t you just love their black, white and hot pink esthetic?

Looking to build, rebuile or refresh your website? Get in touch, I've got one spot left for September.

18/08/2021

Anybody else get that back to school vibe in September?
Even though you’re an adult who’s been out of school for years?

I love when September is on the horizon because I feel like I get back into my organizational brain. Summer just doesn’t have the same productive vibe.

Organization, structure and processes are my jam. Especially when other people around me have a ‘let’s get down to work attitude.

Don’t get me wrong, I love summer. But I’m a fall girl at heart. It always feels like it’s time to start something new.

If you’re similarly minded, and you’ve been putting off building that website for a while, nows a great time.

Systems and tech are my jam, I love creating websites that help you create better systems in your business while also helping you sell to your ideal customer.

There are only two weeks left to book a September spot. So if you’re interested DM me and I can give you all the info.
