When you adopt an abandoned hen you kinda expect it to go live in the hen house with the other chickens. Not this girl! Must of been a house pet in her past life. Loves hanging out at bbq time and pestering for snacks. Customers get a kick out of her as she wanders through the greenhouses looking for ants. Pretty entertaining for sure!

Been going through a creative slump with all the cabinet jobs lately and being task focused. This little diversion of throwing some fun textures onto a greenhouse cabinet pair is helping to keep the other side of my brain functioning. The shiny parts are MDF primer, freshly applied. As the door panels had to be machined for the hinges before being textured, I then flipped them over and wedged them in place with 1/4” plywood. This worked well. I’m going to have fun with final painting and highlighting the pattern. I used Rapid Texture function and various seed vectors to get these patterns.

And day with a bad case of the clamps! Home stretch now. These big carcasses make good use of the 60” clamps!

We finished cutting out all the cabinet parts and now it’s into applying the birch edge banding before assembly starts. It took a lot practice on scraps before we figured out the best way to trim the edge banding without damaging the plywood finish. Here’s .andres doing it right and having fun with the grabo suction tool. It’s a really handy tool!

This little (ha!) demolition project was brought on by the need to be able to fit both my aircraft into one hangar. I sold my first hangar to a new pilot desperately needing a place to house his new fabric covered aircraft. The demo took a few days and I’m now working through the purging of years worth of stuff before handing over the keys. A lot of work but in the end it will be worth it for everyone involved.

3D printed, I bet not. Two different pieces of Baltic birch glued together and then milled on the router. Just a fun idea for the special fermentation chamber lid I’m building for my daughter’s latest project.

This was a bit of a bummer when I opened the door on the and discovered that somehow in the last month the instrument panel had warped. I know with wood that it could happen but after 2 years I thought I was out of the risky zone. Fortunately I had cut the maple panel on the CNC router and had a good file that I could send over to and get a new sub panel cut. As always Lasermann delivers high quality work and the new aluminum panel was perfect. I then cut an overlay panel using material and went with basic black with white lettering. To be honest, the flashy wood with inlays around the instruments was just too much and made for distraction. Installation took about 4 hours and the mild weather made it easy to work with bare hands. The job is done now and ready to fly. The old panel is destined to become wall art now, should look kinda cool or at least a reminder when not to use wood!

This was my birthday, a day at the airport working on my planes and then out for a flight. I always try for a flight on my birthday as my present. Doesn’t always happen but this year has been exceptional for winter flying. A nice supper and wine by the fire to wrap it up. Hope I can keep this routine going for a decade or two.
