Here’s how you know you’ve become a real expert.

You have more repetitions at your craft than days you’ve made your bed.

You can do your work anywhere. On demand. Under pressure. While picking your kids up from swimming and skating at the rec center.

But if your language still reflects who you were three years ago?

There’s friction and it can feel like high-fiving someone who goes in for a fist pump.

Identity transitions appear socially before they appear in branding.

If you want higher-level rooms, collaborations, and opportunities, your articulation must match your capacity.

You already have a personal brand, whether you know it or not.

Most people spend so much time trying to “build” a brand that they forget they already are one. Even if you’ve never published anything in your lifetime, you will be remembered for who you are and how you make people feel.

Recently, I’ve noticed reach and engagement on all social media channels is down. And that means something wild has shifted. We’ve moved into the era of looky-loos. The silent watchers. The lurkers who are watching without clicking. They never like or comment, but they’re paying attention.

They don’t respond to your emails, yet they are taking away something from them and putting it to action. (Yes, I see you, my own sweet lookers.)

They’re getting to know you long before you know they exist. Which means your personal brand isn’t just what you post, it’s how you show up when nobody’s reacting.

The value of having a branded method is that it lives in the mind of your customers, not only your mind. It’s it's the difference between the wisdom you have transferring to your audience or landing on deaf ears.

The science on this is simple: people remember what they understand.

So, to develop a method that is understandable, you need to get into the mind of your ideal customer and what they already know.

By starting with a frame of reference of what they already know, you have already won half the battle of being understood. You then link your ideas to what they already know, and boom, you are on your way to being understood.
