We get to film some pretty incredible panels and speakers at events, and this one was extra special. We worked with Foothills Forage Association at a really meaningful legacy event they hosted, featuring four thoughtful, experienced, and inspiring women sharing their personal journeys of taking over their family ranches.

They have some really great pieces coming in the future from this event!

This year’s tour is a really good one. Blackshirt Feeders is reshaping cattle feeding at scale in the U.S., with Canadian ownership behind it.

They walk you through their management, the latest technology, and the business decisions that make it all work. What I found most interesting was how they’re building a closed loop supply of feeder cattle.

Here are the details on attending, you will be able to watch the tours and then ask the Blackshirt Feeder team questions:

One of the best parts of the work we get to do is spending time with people who are really sharp in their field.

If you have the chance to attend this event, it is well worth making the time. There will be ranchers and range management specialists we have interviewed and learned from firsthand. These are people doing practical, on-the-ground work using silvopasture, managing grazing alongside wildlife, and using cattle as a tool for fire mitigation.

Their depth of knowledge and how they think through real production challenges is impressive. If you are interested in practical ideas that work in today’s production reality, this is a good place to hear them directly.

We’ve had the chance to work with the team Andrea has led at BCRC for the past six years, and it’s been a real privilege. Andrea has a way of seeing what’s needed right now while also thinking ahead, and the strength of the BCRC team is a direct reflection of that. The work they’ve done shows her leadership and care for where the industry is going. An awesome choice for beef producers.

Dennis leaves some very big shoes to fill. His years of leadership and the growth he helped guide in the beef industry have made a massive impact on producers, as well as on the many individuals he’s mentored along the way. Both Ben and I learned so much from working with him, and his experience, perspective and knowledge are things we’ll truly miss.

We wish both Andrea and Dennis all the best as they head into what’s next. We’re grateful for the time we’ve had working with them and for everything they’ve contributed to the industry.

Andrea Brocklebank will become the Canadian Cattle Association’s (CCA) Chief Executive Officer in early March. Brocklebank currently serves as Executive Director for Beef Cattle Research Council (BCRC), a division of the CCA. CCA President Tyler Fulton made the announcement today, citing Brocklebank’s proven track record of strategic decisions and collaboration as critical skills that will ease the senior leadership transition and help ensure CCA is well positioned for the future.

Nobody’s out here asking for more paperwork. But every feedlot we’ve been to says the same thing, having good health records on the cattle they buy matters. If you’re wanting to learn how to set that up in a simple way, VBP+ has some great tools and training to get you going.

🤠 The Confessions of a Canadian Beef Farmer campaign, featuring Andrea Stroeve-Sawa, won Certificate of Merit for series ex*****on. This initiative was a collaboration with the Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (CRSB), Canada Beef and Public and Stakeholder Engagement.

🌳 A series of articles highlighting the 2025 Environmental Stewardship Award (TESA) nominees was also awarded a Certificate of Merit.

We are honoured that Homes on the Range was just one small part of this success. The talent, dedication, and heart behind these projects belong to the Canadian beef team, and we are grateful to collaborate with people who champion producers the way they do.

Congratulations to everyone involved!

For all the ranchers or producers in souther Alberta this looks like a pretty awesome little event about grassland restoration!

The Grassland Restoration Forum (GRF) promotes the conservation and restoration of native grasslands in Alberta through education, outreach and research to improve reclamation practice and foster stewardship. The GRF began in 2006 as a collaboration between members of provincial agencies, the ranchi...

Between 2016 and 2021, Canada lost 1.3 million acres of natural pastureland. Land that once supported both beef producers and the wildlife that depend on these spaces.

This isn’t just about numbers. Every acre gone is habitat erased, resiliency diminished, and pressure added to the producers who care for some of our most biodiverse landscapes.

I’ve seen how deeply they care for the land, but they can’t do it alone. Their stewardship sustains wildlife, soil, water, and culture, and it deserves our support.

This film tells that story of land, of habitat, of the people who protect it.

Watch now and see why the future of Canada’s wild places depends on standing with the producers who care for them.

It's here! Watch our newest short documentary, Homes on the Range, today!

To celebrate , we're launching a film celebrating the important role Canadian beef cattle farmers and ranchers play in conserving critical wildlife habitat on Canadian grasslands.

What if protecting wildlife meant keeping cattle on the land?

🎥Homes on the Range is a moving portrait of the bond between Canada’s beef producers and the wild spaces they protect. More than raising cattle, these producers care for habitats that provide homes for wildlife, safeguard our landscapes, and support Canada’s resilience.

The film reveals the parallel challenges: wildlife struggling to find space in a changing world, and producers working to sustain their herds and livelihoods on the same land. Through the voices of conservationists and producers, Homes on the Range asks how we can support both to keep Canada wild and thriving.

👇If you live close to Saskatoon and are interested, check out the launch event September 4. (Info in the comments)
