We were on the Avalon View going downstream on the Rhine River and stopped in Breisach, Germany. We had a free morning so we explored the picturesque town including the Romanesque-Gothic cathedral St.Stephansmünster. Before we reboarded, I was distracted by a few birds, an Old World warbler known as a Blackcap and the highly invasive Egyptian Goose and its offspring.

Yesterday, I received a late afternoon notice of a mini migration fallout so I scrambled to the east coast of the peninsula where I met a fellow birder/photographer. I'm sure glad I did since I got some unique captures and the Scarlet Tanager will probably be my cover shot for the 2028 calendar. The Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, which is a bit of a rarity, was a complete shocker as was a flock of Blackburnian Warblers all foraging beside each other.

During our visit to Lucerne, we visited Mt. Pilatus. The online summary is spot on. "Mount Pilatus is a stunning mountain massif in Central Switzerland, towering over Lake Lucerne at 2,132 meters. Famous for panoramic Alpine views"

When the first Pine Siskin of the season showed up last week, I thought that bird identification can be a bit of a puzzle. The Pine Siskin has such a striking striped pattern, but so does the female Purple Finch. In the spring, the American Goldfinch slowly turns yellow from its winter drabness, which means you’ll need to double-check when a Pine Warbler shows up and it looks similar to a Pine Siskin. But hey, there’s no denying the king of red!

There were several Greater Yellowlegs foraging in a small pond north of here and I was enjoying getting a variety of shots of them with their reflections. One of them took a break and started preening in the beautiful light of golden hour as the sun was going down. Definitely calendar-worthy.

Yesterday was just a normal day at the feeders with the finches all competing for the prime spots when this bird showed up, a first of the year Pine Warbler! it is pretty exciting when the warblers return.

Here are a couple of keepers from a quick trip to one of my favorite spots on the peninsula, Isaac Lake. I managed to get a great shot of a Hooded Merganser and a Great Blue Heron in its breeding colors.
