A couple of new birds to add to my unofficial 'bird life list', a White-rumped Sandpiper and a Pectoral Sandpiper. Good thing I had an expert bird nerd with me for ID, Ethan Meleg - Outdoor Photography. I have missed seeing these peeps in years past but a trip to the shores of Lake Huron in south Bruce County took care of that today. There were also plenty of Black-bellied Plovers and Semipalmated Plovers to round out the morning.

I started working with a new client today to help her refine her photography, with the goal of moving from auto mode into the more creative modes available on modern cameras. As we worked through my photo examples, I remembered that I'd never shared this picture of a herd of horses — one of my favourites. It was taken in the fields west of Calgary and north of Dinosaur Provincial Park.

They (whoever they are) say that the best camera you have is the one with you. So I had to make lemonade out of a big lemon today. Armed with only my iPhone, I was able to park right beside a Broad-winged Hawk and get this shot. Processed in Lightroom and Topaz Photo to try and get the best results.

I finally have a decent picture of an American Redstart with its tail flared showing off the brilliant orange patches from 2 weeks ago. Meanwhile activity at the water feature has dropped off considerably but I still saw a Black-throated Green Warbler 2 days ago and the hummingbirds were last seen this past Wednesday.

Sadly I won't be able to attend the Bruce Peninsula Bird Observatory open house at the Bruce Peninsula National Park and Fathom Five National Marine Park visitor centre tomorrow. Good news is that both of my 2027 calendars will be there and for each sale, I will donate $10.00 to the Bruce Peninsula Bird Observatory.

After all the castle viewing in the Rhine River gorge, we docked in Koblenz, Germany under the magnificent Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. It looked especially attractive with its evening illumination and waterfront buildings below. The next day we arrived in Cologne, Germany to see the most visited landmark in Germany, the Cologne Cathedral. According to Wikipedia, it is the tallest twin-spired church in the world, the third tallest church in Europe after Sagrada Família and Ulm Minster, and the tallest cathedral in the world. It is quite impressive to say the least and I am thankful for Lightroom's ability to transform the vertical view so it actually appears upright. On the way to the ship, we checked out the Hohenzollern Bridge, home to over 40,000 'love locks' and Dianne's close-up pic illustrates the density of the locks best.
