8 years ago I started Get Social YEG.

Back then I thought marketing success would come down to tactics.
The right platform.

Today we’re giving a little birthday shoutout to the platform that basically raised a generation of marketers 🎂

Facebook officially launched on February 4, 2004, starting as “TheFacebook” in a Harvard dorm room before expanding to other universities—then opening up to everyone in 2006. From there, it introduced the News Feed, brand Pages, the Like button, and eventually a whole advertising ecosystem that changed how businesses grow online.

Fast forward to now, and it’s not just “Facebook” anymore. It’s Meta, with Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and more all living under one roof—which is why strategy today is all about how these platforms work together, not in silos.

And since Facebook is officially 22 years old today… in the wise words of Ms. Swift herself:
