The use of ChatGPT to write posts on social media (and other areas!) is becoming increasingly common. It seems like every second post you see on LinkedIn has that "robotic" tone, which is hard to put a finger on, but most people can feel that something is fishy.
And sometimes, even without using AI, humans can unintentionally end up sounding like it.
Here are some tips to avoid sounding too AI-like when you make your posts. Or if you do use AI to help write posts, try to keep these things in mind so that they have have a human touch.

I hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving đ„ź đŠ đ.
I was working on a digital marketing training project recently where part of the process involved teaching the client how to make small website updates herself â and how to run her own social media ads.
Before we could begin driving traffic, we needed to refresh her website and make a few content and layout updates.
Thatâs when we discovered the problem.
Her WordPress software and hosting were seriously outdated.
What should have been simple edits started taking hours. The site was painfully slow, and eventually, it stopped responding altogether.
She reached out to her hosting company for help â but couldnât get through. When they finally did the update, her entire website crashed.
She wasnât notified, and the project was on hold for two weeks while we tried to get it resolved.
In the end, she moved her hosting over to us. Now we handle monthly backups, software updates, and ongoing maintenance â and if something goes wrong, we contact the client immediately.
I often say this to clients: we treat every website like itâs our own.
What started as a frustrating delay turned into a big win. The site is now stable and fast, her ads are performing beautifully, and sheâs confident managing her own marketing tools.
A great reminder that digital marketing training only works when the foundation â your website â is solid.

Word of mouth used to be enough. But not anymore.
A client in agricultural construction (with project values varying from $50Kâ$1M) came to me after noticing their referrals had slowed.
We did a quick marketing audit, made a few updates, and launched one ad.
The result was five qualified leads in one week... and still counting!
Thatâs the power of modernizing your marketing â not by reinventing the wheel, but by getting strategic and aligning your message with where your buyers are now.
As I was leaving their property, I spotted on the walkway something Iâd never seen before â a giant water bug.
Unexpected. Unusual. And somehow, the perfect symbol for what happens when you look at things differently. đ€

One of the joys of living on an island in the North Atlantic is being surrounded by artists.
P.E.I. is a haven for creativity - whether itâs visual art, theatre, music, pottery, or something entirely unique.
Back in the early days of Covid, I started a Facebook group called PEI art to help share local artistsâ work. Over the years it has grown into a place where people can discover gallery openings, talks, and the amazing talent weâre lucky to have here.
Itâs no surprise that so many artists are drawn to the Island. The lighthouses, rolling fields, sandy coves, foxes and eagles⊠the raw beauty of P.E.I. sparks creativity at every turn.
Though Iâm not an artist myself (I've dabbled), Iâve been fortunate to be surrounded by friends, family, and clients who are. They inspire me every day. Weâre contacted every week by businesses whose websites are broken.
Most of the time the story is the same: they went with a bargain host like GoDaddy or HostPapa. The monthly price looked cheap, but when the site breaks, the real cost shows up in lost trust, lost sales, and lost time.

We are sharing a new scraping tool in the fourth edition of our Modern Marketer weekly newsletter that is coming out a bit later today. Having an engineer who is very critical of AI is very helpful for analyzing tools.
But pairing modern tools with old school marketing prinicples and creativity is where the gold lies...
My summer intern and I chased a sunset last night. Jakob is also my son đ€. We got to end the day working in the cove with a spectacular light show and low tide.
Every client I met with today, we talked about the sunset last night. Atlantic Canada is home to the most spectacular sunsets in the world, I think.
Inspiration and creativity come from being in nature, in my world.
I heard in NS it looked like cotton candy, too!

A few weeks ago I trained and built a custom GPT to help potential clients understand what Cove Consulting offers as well with funding available in Atlantic Canada.
Thereâs often funding programs through ACOA, Innovation PEI, or Invest NS but people donât always know what to ask or where to start.
So my custom GPT knows how Cove works, what services we offer, what grants might apply, and how to take the first step.
But something else happened:
I started using it internally. A lot.
It now helps me write proposals, messaging, prep for calls, and it actually helps me with task lists and projects. Even graphics!
What started as a client tool became a pretty reliable assistant, one trained in my voice, my processes and my branding.
