Every year, I find myself sitting in the audience at PosAbilities Stage Door, and every year they remind me why I fell in love with theatre in the first place.
This is a company that celebrates people with barriers by giving them something profoundly powerful: a stage, a voice, a story, and the opportunity to create something entirely their own.
And then they go and make something brilliant.
I laugh until my eyes water. I watch moments of extraordinary honesty and creativity. And somewhere between the laughter and the applause, I usually find myself completely overwhelmed by the sheer inspiration of it all.
Because this is theatre in its purest form.
It isn’t about perfection. It isn’t about making everything polished and predictable. It’s about people coming together to tell stories, take risks, make each other laugh, surprise us, move us, and remind us that every person has something worth saying.
There is something wonderfully wholesome about watching a room full of people experience that together. No pretence. No barriers between the stage and the audience. Just humanity, imagination, and a whole lot of heart.
PosAbilities Stage Door doesn’t simply put on a show.
They create a space where people get to be seen, heard, celebrated, and brilliantly themselves.
And every year, I leave their theatre laughing, inspired, and feeling just a little more connected to the beautiful, messy, ridiculous thing we call being human.
That’s what theatre is all about.
