National Indigenous Peoples Day is about celebrating and honouring the cultures of Indigenous, Métis and Inuit peoples. Seeing the canoes come ashore was a glimpse into linking past, present and future - history, vision and inspiration.

I keep coming back to a few basic beliefs about local government.

Residents should be listened to before decisions are made.

Growth should be planned carefully.

Taxes and fees should deliver value.

Public meetings should be easy to follow.

Neighbourhoods should be respected.

Affordability should be taken seriously.

And leadership should be calm, practical, and accountable.

That should not be controversial. It should be the standard.

Last week I had the pleasure of hosting a packed house at the Comox Valley Chamber hosted by Brennan Day.

We went over all aspects of the community gaming grant, common pitfalls and best practices, and I stayed late to answer questions.

I ABSOLUTELY love this work, and feel great gratitude at being one of a handful of Community Gaming Grant subject matter experts in BC who can support the charitable sector.
