Community is EVERYTHING to me, which is why I was thrilled to attend the Elementary Walkathon Picnic last night to help raise funds for a new playground.

I was also proud to sponsor the walkathon alongside other well-known local businesses.

Congrats to everyone for a successful and fun family event!

Last night I attended the 39 Service Battalion at the Vanalman St Armoury to learn about the work of the army reserve and the engineering and maintenance crew.

I also got to hear from the very fine people of the Guild of Wagonneers and Artificers, a charity that supports the 39th Battalion, provides bursaries to post-secondary soldiers, veterans, students and military families, and preserves our proud Canadian military history.

We also got a demonstration, and I got to hold a military rifle. I was so impressed by the handling, the weight, and the overall professionalism of the reservists.

It was a fantastic evening to mix and mingle with true Canadian patriots and heroes.

We discussed how communities can help fight back against antisemitism and the work we all have to do to raise awareness about, and educate against, all forms of racism.

From 2020 to 2021, I served as Treasurer of , and it was one of the most rewarding Board roles I have ever had.

This small but VERY mighty community group manages a hall that dates back to 1945 and has maintained it as a central point of culture and vitality for our beautiful slice of Vancouver Island.

Today, we had our AGM and elected a new board.

Exciting things are planned for the next year.

May 22 is World Goth Day.

Here are some throwbacks to my early 20s when my neck was MUCH thinner.

NOTE: I leaned more Emo than goth, but World Emo Day isn't until December 19.

Nine years ago, we lost one of THE BEST!

Chris Cornell was one of the most influential people in my life.

I picked up a 🎸 because of him.

When I shattered my pinky finger on my left hand and couldn't bend it, I kept going and moved to bass because of him.

I stepped to a 🎤 because of him.

He struggled. He suffered. So did I (and still do, at times).

His loss still hurts, but his voice and music live on, inspiring musicians young and old, including me, all over the world.

Thank you, Chris!

Happy Victoria Day, View Royal.

While many of us know Victoria Day as the unofficial start of summer, the holiday also marks the legacy of Queen Victoria, whose reign helped shape early Canada and many of the institutions, traditions, and communities that continue to define our country today.

From the naming of British Columbia’s capital city to her role during Confederation, Queen Victoria’s connection to Canada remains part of our shared history.

Today is also a chance to slow down, spend time with family and friends, and appreciate the community we are fortunate to call home.

Whether you are out enjoying the waterfront, gathering with neighbours, or simply taking a well-earned break, I hope this long weekend gives you time to recharge and connect with the people who matter most.

Strong communities are built over generations through shared pride, thoughtful stewardship, and people who care deeply about where they live.

Wishing everyone in View Royal a safe, relaxing, and happy Victoria Day weekend.
