If you run a WordPress site, spend 15 minutes today checking your plugins.

The last month hit hard:
- WordPress Core > update to 7.1
- Elementor Pro > 4.2.2
- Forminator Forms > 1.56.2
- Pods > 3.3.9.1
- miniOrange SAML SSO > update now (attackers are already exploiting it)

Every one of these has a fix / patch out, and every one of them is being ignored by thousands of site owners who assume WordPress just handles it.

The AODA deadline is December 31, 2026.

If you're an Ontario business or non-profit with 20+ employees, you're required to file an Accessibility Compliance Report. Miss it, and you can face enforcement (not optional).

At 50+ employees, your public website and web content need to meet WCAG 2.0 Level AA as well.

A few important notes-

1) A website compliant a few years ago may not be today. New plugins, template changes & updated functionality could introduce new accessibility issues.

2) Automated scans are nice, but they don't catch everything. Keyboard behaviour and form validation should be manual tested.

3) A compliant homepage isn't enough by itself. Contact forms, checkout flows, account areas and 3rd party plugins / apps can also cause issues.

AI can write code in seconds, true. But the bill for fixing it ends up being more expensive than it's worth.

There's a reason the cheapest quote is usually the most expensive one. When code gets generated fast and shipped without anyone really understanding it, the problems don't disappear. For example, a routine plugin update could break the site, and by then, untangling it costs far more than building it properly would have.

Two things everyone should know before relying on AI-generated code:
- Veracode tested 100+ AI models and found 45% of the code they generated contained security flaws.
- GitClear's analysis of 211 million lines of code found "churn" (code rewritten or thrown out within two weeks) has roughly DOUBLED since AI coding tools went mainstream.

Attackers have been actively scanning WordPress and Joomla sites since July, no joke.

There's a confirmed, ongoing global campaign with named CVEs, public exploit tooling, and businesses already hit.

Two separate things happened last month worth knowing about:

1) On July 9, the Australian Cyber Security Centre flagged a large scale exploitation campaign targeting CMS platforms worldwide. Joomla's JCE plugin alone has 2.5 million sites in scope and has been on CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities list since June!

2) Then on July 17, wp2shell dropped - a critical WordPress core vulnerability requiring no plugins, no login, no user interaction. WordPress forced automatic updates, which they almost never do.

Starting this September, Google's changing how apps get onto Android. To install one the normal way, the developer behind it has to be verified with Google - and if they distribute outside the Play Store, that means government ID and a fee! It begins in a few countries and rolls out worldwide through 2027.

The reason given is security. The effect is that the company making the platform keeps gaining a say in what you can run on a phone you already own. 😒

Heads up if your Instagram is public - Meta's new AI image tool lets other people generate images from your public photos by tagging your handle in a prompt.

Public accounts are opted in by default!

You can switch it off, though:
Open the Instagram App > Profile > menu (top right) > Sharing and reuse > "Allow people to use your content on Instagram and with AI features on Meta" > turn off Posts and Reels.

You won't get a notification if someone uses your content this way, so it's worth checking now.

(Still rolling out region by region, so the setting may not appear for everyone yet - worth checking now either way, as it's arriving fast)

It feels like every week there is another breach, exploit, or reminder that public-facing systems are under constant pressure.

And it is not just about bad passwords anymore.

Verizon's 2026 DBIR reports that 31% of breaches now start with software vulnerabilities, while Patchstack's 2026 WordPress security report found that heavily exploited WordPress vulnerabilities can reach mass exploitation in a median of 5 hours after disclosure.

That's extremely important for any organization collecting regulated or sensitive records through websites, portals, forms, or CMS workflows.

We're getting ready to launch Wyld Registration Sentry for WordPress, a new WyldCode plugin that checks email quality during WordPress registration using WyldAPI!

What does it do? Well, it can be setup to block free or disposable emails on registration, reject specific domains or domains without valid MX records, and optionally apply the same checks when users update their account email.
