From Ideas to Impact: What CSOs Took Home from the Communication Training

When 13 civil society organizations such as Development Initiatives (DEVIIN),, Hope Foundation for Education and Health (HOFEH), , Mom and Baby Foundation (FOMAB),NADEV, EPSA, Reconciliation and Development Association (RADA), Protection and Development Association (EPDA Cameroon), RWAST, Grace Charitable and Rehabilitation Organization, Mike Yanou Foundation and Zoe Communications gathered in Buea for the Communication Training organized by the Mike Yanou Foundation with Zoe Communications and Grace Charitable and Rehabilitation Organization, the goal was clear: strengthen impact through effective communication.

Over two days, participants learned to design strategies aligned with development goals, tell inspiring stories, and use digital tools like Canva and mobile videos for engaging, low-cost content.

For Mbom Stephen, Creative Manager at Zoe Communications, holds that the key takeaway was simple to merge theories with practical ideas which Day 1 focused on effective communication, Day 2 on branding and reducing costs to help CSOs build stronger communication strategies.”

Beyond training, it was a collective journey of sharing, learning, and leaving with practical tools to tell stories better. Each organization took home the same lesson: communication works best when it is purposeful, creative, and strategic.

Bridging Communication and Counseling for Development

At Zoe Communications for Development Agency, we believe that true communication is not just about words—it is about transformation. This vision has been given new depth as our Agency Director, Nicholine Awumbom Musi, recently graduated with an MSc in Clinical Counseling from the Higher Institute of Practical Professional (HIPEP), affiliated with the University of Bamenda.

Already holding an MSc in Communication for Development from Malmö University, Sweden, Nicholine’s academic and professional journey now uniquely bridges two worlds:

Counseling, which focuses on empathy, healing, and psychosocial support, and

Communication for Development, which uses storytelling, design, and advocacy as tools for social change.

This powerful combination strengthens Zoe Communications’ mission as a creative agency for development. It means that every campaign, story, and message we design is grounded not only in creativity but also in human understanding, compassion, and healing.

For communities facing stigma around mental health, for families struggling with silence and shame, and for individuals seeking dignity—this milestone signals Zoe’s growing commitment to communication that does more than inform. It uplifts, heals, and transforms.

We celebrate this achievement not only as an organizational milestone but as a collective step forward in using communication as a bridge between awareness and action, science and story, advocacy and healing.

These were some powerful words shared by Elat Larisa, Communication Officer at For Mom and Baby Foundation (FOMAB), Buea, during the Communication Training for CSOs.

Her reflection sums up exactly what the two-day training achieved: reshaping how organizations think about communication not as random messages, but as intentional storytelling that inspires action and drives change.
