Meet Hercules ❤️
Hercules is a little Papillon guy estimated to be 5–7 years old.
Hercules was dumped in a field and left under cardboard boxes, surrounded by moldy food. He was terrified, his fur was completely matted with p**p, burrs and mud, and his nails had curled underneath his paws. He was in such poor condition that he could barely walk. To make matters worse, he tested heartworm positive.
After grooming him and giving him some much-needed time to decompress, something amazing happened—Hercules learned how to walk again. It was heartbreaking knowing he had to relearn something that should have always been easy for him, but watching his little legs figure it out was also incredibly adorable. ❤️
Seven weeks later, Hercules has come such a long way.
🐾 He sleeps quietly in his crate all night.
🐾 He doesn't tell me when he needs to go outside, so I watch him closely and have learned his signals. He will use a puppy pad if I miss them.
🐾 He has not barked once since I’ve had him. I only heard him whine once in his sleep.
🐾 He is still very skittish and needs a soft voice and gentle approach.
🐾 He has recently started prancing and backing up to me, asking to be picked up and put on my lap—where he will happily sleep for hours. (Thankfully, my surgery has made me available to accommodate his wishes! 😂❤️)
🐾 He eats well.
🐾 He is good around kids and other dogs, although he mostly keeps to himself.
🐾 He doesn't really play. He'll watch the other dogs playing, occasionally go over to investigate, and then return to his blanket to supervise from a distance.
And then there are his absolutely adorable little quirks. 🥹
🐐 When he wants my attention, he prances around like a tiny billy goat or walks sideways.
🍽️ He eats the outside of his kibble and leaves the center.
👀 He has the most intense stare you have ever seen.
🚪 He refuses to step on a door threshold—he always jumps over it!
🐾 He will intensely search for the opening in his playpen, even though sometimes he just can't quite see it.
Hercules doesn't need a busy household or someone looking for the perfect, playful dog. He needs patience. He needs gentleness. He needs someone who will let him take his time and show them who he really is.
After everything this little man has endured, he deserves to spend the rest of his life feeling safe, loved and cherished.
And if he wants to spend that life curled up on your lap for hours… well, I think he's earned it. ❤️
Hercules is ready for his forever home. 🏡🐾❤️
