*National Voluntary Blood Donors Organisation Marks 2026 World Blood Donor Day in Tiko*
Members of the National Voluntary Blood Donors Organisation yesterday, June 18, 2026, celebrated the 2026 edition of World Blood Donor Day.
The event took place at the VCT Cottage, CDC Cottage Hospital, and was attended by the CMO of CDC Hospitals, Dr. Vera Fontem; the Regional Coordinator for Blood Transfusion for the South West Region, Dr. Bessingi Essono; Mr. Ukwandum Samuel, General Coordinator of the National Voluntary Blood Donors Organisation for the South West and North West Regions; as well as blood donors and aspiring donors.
The event featured speeches and served as a platform to encourage the population to donate blood.
At the end of the event, Mr. Ukwandum Samuel, General Coordinator of the National Voluntary Blood Donors Organisation for the South West and North West Regions, saluted the efforts of donors for saving lives voluntarily.
Speaking on the importance of blood transfusion, the CMO for CDC Hospitals, Dr. Vera Fontem, shed more light on the topic and called on donors to bring in more volunteers.
While decrying the decline in the availability of the life-saving liquid in blood banks, the Regional Coordinator for Blood Transfusion for the South West Region, Dr. Bessingi Essono, encouraged donors not to relent in their efforts to save lives by donating regularly.
It is worth noting that this year’s edition of World Blood Donor Day was commemorated under the theme: _“One drop of humanity, Give blood, save lives.”_
