We use two types of domes in membrane switches keypad, stainless steel and polyester. There was no significant difference in reliability between the two dome technologies.
Many people prefer the feel of a stainless steel dome. Stainless steel domes also require lower initial tooling costs. Stainless steel domes are almost always used for printed circuit board based membrane switches keyboard.
The disadvantage of the stainless steel dome is: the pressing life is 300,000-500,000 times, and the cost of assembling the circuit is high.
The polyester dome is usually formed in the top circuit of the membrane switch and has a press life of 1 million times
Disadvantages of polyester domes are: expensive to make molds, cannot pass high temperature
