I worked for a band on tour. Their promo, their release, all of it. One of them spent the whole tour treating it as something other than work. So I had a second job on top of the first one: saying no, over and over, without losing the client.

Three stories, three different ways of not being taken seriously. A line erased by the other person. Work credited to someone who did none of it. And a job nobody can see past. 

✖️ None of this is a Berlin thing or a punk thing. It's everywhere in this industry, and every woman reading this has her own version.

Someone decided Rise Against aren't punk anymore. The reason: the Hellfest stage was too big.

Twenty years of punk festivals. A career of never being quiet about politics, anti-Trump and anti far right. One Hellfest main stage and the card gets pulled.

Then someone replied that real punk died in the late 70s anyway. Two comments. Two ways of closing the same door.
⛔️ That's gatekeeping, and the polite version counts too.

So who's the punk police, and what are the rules?👩🏻‍✈️
Punk was supposed to be the room where everyone got in. Whatever your background, your religion, your gender, who you love, how you look.

This is how a scene gets old and dies. Go to shows and you can see it happening. New people arrive at a trickle, and the bands bringing something fresh get told they don't qualify. They said it about Turnstile too. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Amy Winehouse was more punk than any of them!

And apparently you need a mohawk to even listen to this music. I don't have one. I work in it every day, which makes me more punk than someone who polices a scene and does nothing else for it.

🌱 Riotseed is music marketing for DIY punk and alternative bands. The whole job is keeping the door open for the ones nobody is waiting for.

Not punk enough for the punks. Not techno enough for the techno crowd.
15 years in and still getting asked if I "really" belong. 🙄

Here's why I'm telling you this: the scene did it to me, and the industry does it to your band. One genre, one box, and everything else about you gets ignored.

That's the whole reason Riotseed exists: helping DIY & punk bands show who they actually are, not the version an algorithm filed them under.
Whatever the genre. I know these scenes because I live in them.

Berlin is RAW. And right now, RAW is being torn down 🚨

The Kurth-Gruppe walked away from the table and ordered Cassiopeia and other venues off the RAW-Gelände.

Eviction by the end of June: A 20-year-old club gone in two weeks to clear space for a 100-metre office tower.

This isn't one club. It's Crack Bellmer, the Weißer Hase, the ateliers, the skatehall, the whole Soziokulturelle L.
The messy, living heart of Friedrichshain 🖤

Lose RAW to greed and short-term profit, and we lose another piece of what makes Berlin actually Berlin.
The investor needs to come back to the table. This city can't keep trading its hard-won free spaces for glass towers.

These are the rooms our bands play. The stages where scenes are born.

Not every platform deserves your energy. Here's a quick breakdown:

🟢 Bandcamp: direct support from fans, community-driven, you keep more revenue
🟢 YouTube: visual discovery, long-tail content, second biggest search engine in the world

The rest? Only if it aligns with your values and your audience is actually there.

Where your music lives says something about your band. Make it intentional. 🌱

The best song you've ever written won't get you a single new fan. 🤯🔫
For that, your band needs to be found easily online as soon as someone goes looking for your music or your style.

Say you're the opening act on a tour. You play an awesome gig and win over a bunch of new fans. 🎵 They grab their phone to find you afterwards… and they can’t: different usernames everywhere, no bio, an old website nobody updated.

🚩 So they never make it back to you, your music or your socials.

I've seen so many bands neglect this and stay completely invisible to the fans they just won.

Everyone obsesses over getting more streams. But the thing that actually comes first is your visibility and online presence. 💣
