Read our interview with Hugo Dallmann about his piece, “DATA CARPET” which will be showing TOMORROW at our TECH ART EXPO event!

Q: How do you think technology and art work together with one another?
ENG: For me, the technology is only the tools with which I express myself. For other artists this the paintbrush or the instrument for the musician. First there’s the idea or the thought one wants to express, and the technology makes it then possible.
GER: Für mich ist die Technologie nur ein Werkzeug mit der ich mich ausdrücke. Für andere Künstler ist das der Pinsel oder das Instrument. Zuerst steht die Idee oder der Gedanke den man umsetzten möchte und die Technologie macht es dann möglich.
Q: How can technology change/influence art?
ENG: New technologies always allows new levels of interpretation. Expand the possibility to look at things and give artists new ways to implement them. Tech finds not only the economic action but also always a way in art and gives new room to unfold.
GER: Neue Technologien ermöglicht auch immer eine neue Interpretationsebene. Sie erweitern die Möglichkeit dinge zu betrachten und geben den Künstlern neue Möglichkeiten sie umzusetzen. Tech findest neben der Wirtschaftlichen Wirkungsweise auch immer einen Weg in die Kunst und gibt neuen Raum zum entfalten.
Q: How can art change/influence technology?
ENG: Art often acts on the technology when a questioned their handling critical, they tried to influence their perspective.
GER: Kunst wirkt oft auf die Technik ein wenn sie deren Umgang kritisch hinterfragt. Sie versucht dann deren Sichtweise zu beeinflussen.
Q: What are exactly are you expressing with your art piece, and how is it relevant to the connection between art and technology?
ENG: With my work "DATACARPET" I sat down apart with the handling of data. How do we use it today, how pervasive they are and where we encounter them. Are we even aware of the mass of data? By installing I have created a new volume is in the poeticanachronism for today's data world. Digital data, produced mechanically and only analog read. Each DATACARPET is a digital original.
GER: Mit meiner Arbeit „DATACARPET“ setzte ich mich mit dem Umgang von Daten auseinander. Wie verwenden wir sie heute, wie allgegenwärtig sind sie und wo begegnen wir ihnen. Sind wir uns der Masse an Daten noch bewusst? Durch die Installation haben ich einen neuen Datenträger geschaffen der im poetischer Anakronismus zur heutigen Datenwelt steht. Digitale Daten, Mechanisch Produziert und nur Analog lesbar. Jeder DATACARPET ist ein Digitales Original.
