Last week, a group of ship masters from PENINSULA Shipping completed a week-long course titled “Safe Handling of Bunkering Barges at Suez and Portsaid Areas” at the Suez Canal Maritime Training and Simulation Academy. The course focused on the critical aspects of operating and maneuvering bunkering barges using modern Navigational Simulators, including adverse weather conditions, complex traffic situations, and emergency procedures in the Suez and Port Said areas.
The training program “Safe Handling of Bunkering Barges at Suez and Portsaid Areas” covers training in the key operational zones of Suez and Port Said, combining theoretical lectures with practical simulator-based scenarios. The practical scenarios focus on major critical situations relevant to bunkering barge operations, including maneuvers under different environmental effects (Fog, Sandstorm), different day times (Daylight, Night time), own unit faults (Engine failures, Steering failures, etc.), other vessels’ failures (ahead vessel troubles), hydrodynamic effects (bank effect, squat effect), and Master-Pilot Information Exchange (MPX) to support safe navigation and operations.
