Hello, my dear wireless friends!
Today we will talk about SEO, SMO, SMM, SEM, and other scary words!
Every person involved in the site and business promotion on the Internet comes to 4 scary words. SEO, SMO, SMM, and SEM.
Every time I speak with some geeks who think that he knows how modern internet is working I hear something like: “Man the SEO is dead and it is a new era of SMM now” And I can tell you for sure that those geeks know nothing about internet and getting more traffic and clients from the web.
But first of all let us define what are SEO, SMO, SMM, and SEM.
The almighty SEO
Search Engine Optimization – SEO deals with making your site visible in Search engines like Google, Yandex, Bing, etc. The more visible your site is – the more traffic and clients you will get. It involves keywords, tags, meta descriptions, code optimization, link building. And more. And when you hear that SEO is dead it is wrong. It is not dead it evolved into something bigger than just entering right tags and words.
With new search algorithms – Panda and Hummingbird Google now looks for content, linked words. Search system now is intelligent it can think and learn. So you won’t go far with just creating correct tags and keywords on your website.
PROS:
Long lasting effect
Increase in the target audience
Low costs per one attracted customer
Big conversion rate
Useful content creation
CONS:
Time-consuming
Big expenses in the beginning
Risks losing it all when search algorithm changes
Upstart SMM
Lately, Social Networks conquered many minds. Hundreds of millions of real users are surfing Facebook, Instagram, VK, and other networks in search of funny stuff, goods, and services. And it is not very difficult to promote your business in those Social Networks. That is why many young geeks think that now they can forget about SEO and SEM to dedicate all their efforts to promote their services inside Social Networks only.
And this point of view is a big mistake. But let us start with definitions. So SMM is Social Media Marketing. You promote your services with small posts, live videos, and photos of pretty kitties. From one point of view, it sounds great but in fact, the conversion rate of that kind of promotion is very small.
The purpose of those networks is not giving useful information for their users (at least not the major purpose) but to provide entertaining stuff and give social communication interface.
To compare with something in real life imagine big loud Rave party with thousands of guests. And you are standing on the corner of that crowd and trying to sell them a book on quantum mechanics. And the problem that you do not realize that it is not a very good idea but you are still standing out there and shouting out loud.
So SMM is not good for any business and it is just an additional marketing channel for most of the businesses.
Add the last bullet for SMM. Search engines like Google process 1.5 trillion searches per year. It is times bigger than total Social Networks users including bots.
So SMM is good only for certain types of business and it is good as an additional channel of marketing.
PROS:
Cheap
Easy
Getting the target audience
Radio effect
CONS:
Not good for every type of business
The Distraction of potential customers
Time-consuming
Spam tagging of your ads
People trust Search engines more
You need constantly talk with potential customers directly
SEM and SMO
These two are small but also important. SMO target is keeping users who came to your site through social networks. These include some paid posts on FB or Instagram. The constant content update and the channel between your site and Social Networks.
SEM is a great marketing tool to attract customers from all available network sources. Google ads are a very effective channel of sales.
As we can see SEO is not dead and SMM is just an addition to it in the majority of cases. To be visible on the networks you should use all of them SEO + SMM + SMO + SEM and let the force be with you!
See you online. Wish you high speeds and minimal ping.
