Ghostpipefish are some of the most intricate and fascinating creatures we encounter underwater.

In Alor we were lucky to see ornate, halimeda, roughsnout, robust amd slender species. In many different colours

They use their bodies and fins to mimic crinoids, algae and seagrass, which make them very had to see even when your dive guide is pointing one out!

Thanks to the team at for bringing us to so many great dive sites for these special encounters

Nudi Nerd Alert!!!

All photos taken during a day of diving in over 20 different species identified

The team at Alor Tanapi Dive Resort organized for us to take 2 boats down the south of the Pantar Strait to dive in the bay of Beangabang. The pier here was covered in corals and sponges hosting all these incredible sea slugs.

Max depth was 20m, but many were in the shallow water, some of us had very long dives indeed ;)

We dived here a few times in 2017 but now we'd say the pier had so much more life on it, and not just nudis

Sea horses are always a winning find for us on a dive. No matter how many we spot they remain a highlight and have a firm place on our critter wishlist.

During our recent stay at we encountered several hippocampus histrix in different colours and sizes. The most being 4 in a dive at the site which is now known as Ricky's Rodeo 🐎🎠🏇🤠

We shall be uploading these to the database once we get back home. This project helps to protect habitats where seahorses can be encountered.

Huge thanks to our guides .claire.j for their spotting skills and congrats to us .erbe for finding a few ourselves

A superb find and capture by our buddy Jason

Unexpected encounters in Alor: a hairy octopus, like a little alien from another world. Found by Jason and and perfectly captured by Jason. A special moment shared with our group.

Miamira Sinuata found by our excellent dive guide
This tiny was just a 10mm and looked like a pale beige speck, but with microscope mode on the TG7 we were able to capture the magnificent pattern and colours to aid in our identification...now that's team work!

For our final afternoon in Alor we took a tour to the village of Umapura, so famed for ikat weaving the houses have been painted in the same style.
We were invited into a collective, offered tea and coffee then learned how cotton was spun into thread, dyed using natural local plants and then woven to form the designs.
The process is a long one, taking several months to create 1 table cloth. We of course bought several for a fraction of the price sold in airport shops.

If you visit Alor add Umpapura to your list things to to do. Alor Tanapi arranged the visit for us through Ay was a great guide, fun and knowledgeable.

The final day of diving is never one we look forward to, but for our dive guides its their final chance to find us some awesome creatures and wow did they deliver!!!!
Ocellated frogfish

What a fabulous way to end an already outstanding dive trip. We've seen so much, enjoyed lots of dancing, hugging and whooping underwater and managed to get some brilliant photos.

Thanks to .claire.j and all the team at for making this trip one to remember and to all our awesome buddies for choosing to travel with us once again

Harlequin Shrimp 👀🤩; An incredible find by who spotted them during an afternoon dive in the Kalabahi Bay yesterday.

We headed back out to the site this morning and boom! Less than a minute into the dive we had them, thanks to the awesome skills of the dive guides at 🫶👏

These little treasures are super hard to find so a real treat for us divers.
