What if Romeo and Juliet had met in the age of swiping, situationships and rapidly changing relationship statuses?

Mallorca-raised actress and writer Isabella Rose has reimagined Shakespeare’s most famous love story for a modern audience. Rosaline finally gets her say, nobody has to sit through four hours of tragedy and the whole thing is being performed inside a working vineyard in Alaró.

I spoke to Isabella about growing up in Mallorca, training as an actress, appearing in the forthcoming season of *Silo* and writing her first play.

*Juliet’s Romeo* comes to Bodega Olorón from 5 to 8 September.

Latest article for the Bulletin. The show is on next weekend in Alaro, tickets are on sale now via Eventbrite.

Mallorca Solar Eclipse 2026: essential information
Date: Wednesday 12 August 2026
Partial eclipse begins: approximately 19:38
Totality: approximately 20:31 to 20:33, depending on your location
Duration of totality: around 90 seconds in Mallorca
End of eclipse/sunset: approximately 20:49
Direction: west-north-west
Height of the Sun at totality: only around 2° above the horizon
Official viewing areas in Mallorca: nine
Important: major traffic restrictions and controlled access will operate across the island
Eye protection: ISO 12312-2 compliant solar eclipse glasses must be used during the partial phases

How to check whether you can see the eclipse from home
One of the best things you can do before 12 August is establish whether you actually need to go anywhere.
The free Horizonte Eclipse 2026 tool allows you to select a location on a map and assess whether the maximum phase should be visible above the natural horizon.
The tool incorporates the surrounding topography, which is enormously useful on an island as mountainous as Mallorca.
However, it cannot necessarily account for every nearby tree, hotel, apartment block or other local obstruction.

The simple pre-eclipse test
There is also a very practical way of checking your proposed viewing spot.
Using proper ISO 12312-2 certified solar eclipse glasses, check whether you can see the Sun from the exact location at:
9 August at 20:36
10 August at 20:35
11 August at 20:34
If the Sun is visible from that position at the relevant time, you have a good indication that the horizon should be open enough for the eclipse.
Do not look directly at the Sun without proper solar viewing glasses.
