I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how much we romanticise growth 🫠

Everyone wants the outcome, but no one really talks about how deeply uncomfortable the actual process of growing feels when you’re in it.

It’s not inspiring while it’s happening. It’s awkward and scary and made me want to quit every other day 😂 and at one point I actually did!!!

But here’s what I’ve learned...

Growth doesn’t happen in your comfort zone. Not ever. And the people who actually grow are the ones willing to sit in the discomfort long enough for it to compound 👀

So if you’re in that uncomfortable phase right now... where you’re doing something that feels scary or awkward or like it’s not working yet... that feeling is the price.

And paying it is what separates the people who actually change their lives from the people who just talk about wanting to 🤍

How to make your content go viral (Backed by Psychology)
- Without dancing, pointing, or praying to the algorithm gods.

Hi 👋 I’m Melissa 💁🏻‍♀️ a marketer with a masters degree in psychology & here are 5 ways you can increase the likelihood of your content going viral using psychology.

1. Preframe why you are worth listening to.
People engage better when they have context. Which is where storytelling comes in. You don’t need to list your full CV, but you to state why your audience should trust you with the next 30 seconds of their attention.

2. Use Strategic friction (aka: engagement bait that actually works).
People are more likley to engage when something interrupts agreement. That could be: saying the thing people are thinking but won’t say, deliberately challenging a common belief, getting something slightly wrong on purpose or sharing an opinion you know will split the room. The brain hates unresolved tension. So when someone disagrees, wants to correct you, or feels emotionally charged, your content literally becomes engagement bait which = virality.

3. Use hooks (visual and verbal).
Your audience is distracted. Overstimulated. Half-listening. So a hook (or multiple hooks) sparks curiosity that leaves the brain wanting resolution. As if there’s no curiosity, there’s no reason to keep watching. Simple as that.

4. Tell stories (this is where emotion lives).
Storytelling is how humans make meaning. Always has been. It’s also the one thing no one else can copy from you. Sharing stories is the fastest way to create that connection, trigger emotion and stand out.

5. Keep peoples brain awake.
Most people scroll because their brain gets bored. So your content needs to stimulate. The brain response to movement, novelty and signals. You can do this using: Music, tone of voice, sound effects, captions, graphics, angles etc.

Reduce the effort.

Are you in 200 view jail watching average content go viral?

Yeah, I’ve seen it too.

Look, I know everyone says “just be consistent and post good content” but that advice honestly feels a little incomplete.

Because I’ve seen really good content get 200 views and mediocre content go viral. The difference?

Understanding how the brain actually pays attention.

This is what I learned after spending 8 years studying psychology. People engage when specific psychological triggers are activated. And once you know what those triggers are, you can design your content around them instead of just hoping something lands.
