There are albums that are difficult to swallow at first but then you can not get rid of them.
That's a process that happened to me with many things that I got to like a lot in my life. Talking about music, it happened with Camarón de la Isla, John Coltrane or Einstürzende Neubauten to mention a few.
So speaking about The Liberation, I remember sitting in my car on a rainy winter morning and I decided to play this album. I did not know anything about Disillusion. Just found some good reviews and decided to give it a try for a couple of minutes. I thought to myself "this is too much, I need to listen to it more calmly".
A few weeks later I played it again, at home. I wanted a soundtrack for a hard working morning. Soon after, I found myself with my mouth open in awe, my fingers, motionless, stuck on my keyboard and my mind travelling with The Liberation. What a ride!
It is quite difficult for me to describe it, but maybe the most appropiate label would be progressive metal. There are some Swedish melodies mixed with Devin Townsend and some melancholy akin to that of modern Anathema. Yet it has its unique flavour and sound.
I fell in love with its depth and It became one of my favourites of all times.
And now, listening to it while writing this it brings me so many good memories.
If you do not know this album, maybe start discovering The Great Unknown and then climb The Mountain.
And of course..... sit back and enjoy!
