Lipstick challenge!
Spring is a great time to cull all sorts of stuff around the house, so why not also take a critical look at your lipsticks! For many of us, lipsticks tend to accumulate everywhere…home, handbag, office, maybe even in the car (best take them out NOW before the summer!). Most of the time, we’re not exactly sure how old each tube is, which is why it’s a good idea to have a periodic cull.
In addition to age/condition, pay attention to what sort of shades you have: a gazillion tubes of a somewhat similar shade from various brands, or perhaps quite a varied selection of shades, some of which you may never wear? The first scenario is OK from a colour analysis point of view, so long as that shade really does good things to your face. The second one tells me that you’ve been buying lipsticks that you’d maybe like to wear but haven’t felt comfortable doing so, after all. Possibly you’ve discovered that it’s not a good look on you…but it’s also possible that it does work, only it’s too different from how you’re used to seeing your face in the mirror.
What about seasonal changes? If you live in an area where winter is cold/grey and summer is warm/hot, are you in the habit of wearing a different lip colour in the summer? I myself wear pretty much the same lipsticks year round, but if you tan very easily, it’s perfectly reasonable to choose a slightly more intense summer lip colour (and possibly also a touch cooler).
And here comes the challenge: go through your stash, count how many you have, get rid of the too-old and dirty-looking ones, and possibly also the dodgy shades (if you’re sure). And if you dare, comment below and tell me how many you have/had, with a pic if possible!
If you prefer to comment privately, just email me at [email protected] and I’ll reply with a lipstick recommendation if you know your colour Season (in the 12 Season system). The recs are from brands and colours currently available in Finland. I’ll add you to my email list which you can quit any time. I don’t spam or pass on email addresses.
