As a co-founder of the Nordic Ocean Cluster Accelerator and an active contributor to Finland’s blue economy ecosystem, we see firsthand that real change happens when startups, businesses, investors, cities, researchers and experts come together around shared challenges.

⚓ Meet our Nordic Blue 2026 startup: RedGet.io - Port & Maritime Tech for Sustainable Future a maritime data solutions startup. They design, build, and operate data acquisition, processing, analytics, and AI systems for ports, terminals, vessel operators, and logistics operators. RedGet deliver both off-the-shelf products and custom-engineered solutions — covering emission data management, port operational intelligence, maritime data infrastructure, supply chain analytics, and maritime ESG data. They own the full stack from the data pipeline to the AI layer.

Maritime moves 90% of global trade and remains one of the least digitized industries on earth. Vessel movements, port operations, cargo flows, and emission footprints are largely siloed, manually managed, and updated every few years by external consultants.

At the same time, regulatory pressure has shifted from future target to present-day cost centre: EU ETS is now a live P&L line item for every major operator, IMO net-zero framework enters force in 2027 with a binding carbon price from 2028, and ports face parallel mandates under CSRD, AFIR, and FuelEU Maritime to build data capabilities they simply don't have today. The maritime digitization market sits at $175 billion and is projected to reach $395 billion by 2033. Maritime AI alone is compounding at 40.6% CAGR.

Yet maritime receives three times less venture capital than its share of global GDP would justify. The window to become the default data intelligence provider for this sector is open right now.

⛵ Meet our Nordic Blue 2026 startup: Saaristo.online is a trusted digital gateway for coastal boating life. We bring together boaters, harbours, local services and tourism actors so that journeys, destinations and local offerings become easier to discover, plan and access.

For boaters, this means clearer information and more confident decisions on the water. For harbours and coastal businesses, it means better visibility, easier participation and stronger links to visiting boaters. By reducing fragmentation across coastal services, Saaristo.online helps strengthen local economies, improve access to the archipelago and support more responsible choices along the coast.

Coastal boating and maritime tourism are still highly fragmented: boaters often need several sources to find routes, harbours, services, weather, booking options and local information. Saaristo.online reduces this fragmentation by creating a connected digital ecosystem that improves access and safety on the water, strengthens the visibility of local operators, and supports more viable coastal communities. ☀️🌊 We’re excited to welcome Wilma Tiainen as A’Pelago’s Summer Trainee for 2026. This year, she joins us as an Event Coordinator for Initiative 2026, where she will play a key role in planning the event and bringing the right people into the room.

Wilma is currently studying Industrial Engineering and Management at the University of Turku. Nature is close to her heart, and the sea is her compass, a place she returns to think, reset, and reconnect with what truly matters.

Deeply involved in Turku’s startup scene, Wilma holds a clear conviction: the people who will shape the future are the ones who build companies. She’s on her way to becoming one of them.

For Wilma, taking part in A’Pelago Initiative 2026 is more than an internship, it’s a front-row seat to understanding what it really takes to build something that matters.

"A’Pelago brings together things I care about and want to learn. Growing up sailing and working summers in the Finnish archipelago gave me a deep and personal connection to the sea, one that has shaped how I think about what really matters.

Food systems need new protein sources that are scalable, resource-efficient and commercially viable. TuniSea develops natural umami ingredients and functional protein solutions with a fraction of the environmental footprint of conventional meat, using marine biomass that requires no land, feed or freshwater to grow. 🤖 Meet our Nordic Blue 2026 startup: Sub Marine Store is a Finnish startup that delivers custom marine robotics solutions designed for demanding offshore, research, security, and industrial environments.

The company specializes in advanced USV (Uncrewed Surface Vehicle), ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle), sonar, underwater positioning, and underwater camera systems, helping organizations improve operational efficiency, safety, and data collection at sea.

Its offering includes customized BlueROV2 configurations, tailored for mission-specific underwater operations, as well as a 1.8-meter USV platform fully compatible with BlueRobotics products and BlueOS, enabling flexible integration and scalable autonomous operations.

👉 Sub Marine Store is also developing next-generation USV autonomy and swarm capabilities, supporting the future of coordinated marine robotics for surveillance, inspection, mapping, and environmental monitoring.
