Our deepest condolences to the family and to the National Trust of Fiji. Mrs Erasito was such a great advocate and friend to us all. We are so grateful for the years of collaboration on various projects spearheaded by this amazing woman. May she rest in the loving arms of our Lord and Saviour.

🕊️In Loving Memory of Mrs. Elizabeth Erasito 🕊️

It is with profound sadness that the National Trust of Fiji announces the passing of our Director, Mrs. Elizabeth Erasito.

Mrs Erasito joined the Trust in 1997 and devoted nearly three decades to the protection and promotion of Fiji’s natural and cultural heritage. Over the years, she rose through the ranks to become Director — a position she held with distinction for over 20 years.

Her visionary leadership, diplomatic acumen, and deep commitment to community engagement made her a highly respected figure in the conservation sector, both nationally and across the Pacific. She led with integrity, compassion, and an unwavering dedication to the mission of the Trust, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to shape our work for years to come.

Mrs. Erasito was also a wonderful mentor to many. She always made time for staff, believed in the goodness of people, and reminded us to remain faithful in our work and in our lives. She often reminded us that our work is ordained by God — that we are guardians of the land and sea, entrusted with a sacred responsibility.

Her passing today has come as a shock and brings immense sadness to the National Trust of Fiji family. We will greatly miss her leadership, her wisdom, and the spirited energy she brought to every aspect of our work.

In this time of mourning, we respectfully honour the privacy of her family as they prepare for her final farewell. Arrangements will be advised in due course.

Honored to have been a part of the journey with the amazing Steven Percival and Tiapapata Art Centre Inc. team.

Hundreds of prehistoric stone mounds have been uncovered across Samoa thanks to drones and laser light technology, and now a project bringing these megalith structures to the world could help answer the puzzling question: why were they built?

The Living Monuments project has recreated a high-quality virtual model of one of these mounds, known as Potini Tia, which is now accessible through virtual and augmented reality.

What a blessing it has been to reach another milestone in our project’s journey. We are constantly in awe of how far this initiative has come — but even more so, we are deeply grateful for the incredible people we’ve met along the way.

To all the Rotuman associations around the world and every individual who has generously given their time, resources, and support — faiakse’ea e hanisi.

This image of the Tia at Pōtini in Sa'anapu was taken two weeks ago. More of the trees on the right and the surrounding bush has been cleared since this image was taken. Look carefully and you will see me standing at the top in a red shirt. Measurements are estimates only but with recent photogrammetry images captured, we should have accurate dimensions by this Friday's seminar and workshop at the Tiapapata Art Centre... I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be in Samoa collaborating with the amazing Steven Percival and his team at Tiapapata Art Centre Inc. as we support the community in documenting one of the unique megalithic star mounds here. The past few days have been nothing short of inspiring, and I’m excited for what the upcoming week holds.

Over the next week, we will be exploring the possibilities of emerging technology to enhance culture and heritage work and research. It's a privilege to be part of such an innovative and meaningful project.

I’m truly blessed and honored to have been invited to share my knowledge and skills alongside such a talented team. I wish them all the best in everything they do.

It’s been a long journey but the work has been worth it. To see the reaction and joy in the faces of those that we get to share this story with is just an emotionally fulfilling experience.

There’s work and then there’s a passion project. This is on another level

We have been reflecting on our USA premiere, feeling so humbled and inspired by the wonderful people we have connected with along the way.

To the Rotumans in America group and especially the organizing committee, we thank you for agreeing to host us and for the warm welcome and hospitality we received in Sacramento.

Thank you for your tireless work and efforts behind the scenes to keep our culture alive, even though Rotumans in America are so far from our home island.

We’re honored to have had the opportunity to share The Rotuma Project and share a bit about our journey. Thank you for reciprocating and also sharing your own journeys and experiences of life in the diaspora with us.

We were truly blessed and encouraged to see people with the same passion and vision for holding onto and celebrating our shared heritage. Separated, we will scatter to the wind. Together, we can continue to nourish our shared roots. We pray for blessings, strength and God’s covering on your group and your families.

Here we go

As I prepare to journey back to my family (really missing them), I wanted to share a thought.

Firstly, I praise and glorify God for guiding me safely through this journey and preserving my health along the way. Secondly, I extend my heartfelt thanks to Pacific-Community-SPC and the ACP-European Union in the Pacific for extending the invitation and providing me with the opportunity to speak at FestPac. Reflecting on the experiences and the remarkable individuals I've encountered, I am filled with gratitude.

During my presentation, I shared these words: "For those unaware of Rotuma's location, envision Fiji as a dot in the vast Pacific Ocean, and within that dot lies Rotuma. So the fact that we’re a dot within a dot, being represented on an international platform is not only an honor but also an invaluable opportunity to showcase our rich heritage and culture to the world."

With these sentiments in mind, I commend all the remarkable Rotumans I've had the privilege to meet. Despite facing numerous challenges and critiques, they've tirelessly promoted Rotuma on the global stage. From those involved in organizing FestPac to those holding esteemed positions in various agencies, and the talented performers who poured their hearts out on stage, the pride and dedication of the Rotuman community were truly inspiring. Special recognition goes to the team from Rotuma, whose performances captivated audiences and received unwavering support from the Taukave brothers (FOC).

While our perspectives may differ, I firmly believe in supporting and celebrating every Rotuman who takes pride in our culture, history, and heritage, and endeavors to share it with the world. Let us unite in solidarity, uplifting one another with words that build up and not tear down and continuing to showcase the beauty of Rotuma to the world. Together, our collective efforts will leave an indelible mark for generations to come.
