🇼🇸 Samoa honors Queen Elizabeth II
On September 10, 2026, the Central Bank of Samoa issued a limited-edition 100 tala commemorative banknote marking the 100th birth anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II.

The note recalls the Queen’s historic 1977 visit to Samoa — the first visit by a reigning British monarch to the country.

👑 The obverse features three portraits of Elizabeth II — as a child, a young princess and later in her reign — alongside Samoan landmarks, a sea turtle, traditional vaʻa canoe and ocean waves.

The reverse shows Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip and Samoa’s Head of State Malietoa Tanumafili II, photographed during their historic visit.

🌴 Other elements include Fuipisia Falls, the ruins of a missionary church, traditional Lapita patterns and the Dutch ship De Arend, a nod to the Netherlands where the banknote was printed by Royal Joh. Enschedé.

🔐 Printed on PolySecure® polymer, this is only the sixth banknote worldwide produced on this substrate. It features a transparent plumeria window, microtext and UV security elements.

📦 A commemorative folder is available for the first 1,000 notes.

The banknote is not intended for general circulation.

Will Samoa’s 100 tala be crowned the Best Commemorative Banknote of 2026? 👑🏆

🇷🇴 IS THIS A CONTENDER FOR THE BEST COMMEMORATIVE BANKNOTE 2026?

Romania has just announced a new numismatic issue dedicated to Eugeniu Carada, the founder of the National Bank of Romania, marking 190 years since his birth.

Carada played a key role in the creation of Romania’s central banking system and was one of the most important figures behind the establishment of the National Bank of Romania.

The new issue combines his portrait with elements connected to the history and heritage of the National Bank of Romania, turning the banknote into a tribute to one of the institution’s founding figures.

But here is the question for banknote collectors:

🏆 Does this banknote deserve to compete for the title of Best Commemorative Banknote 2026?

Is the design strong enough to stand alongside the best commemorative banknotes issued around the world this year?

We want to hear your opinion. 👇

YES or NO?

Greetings to all money collectors from Balzers, Liechtenstein!

Today, I’m here with Andre Zülle, the 33rd Money Fair Organizer and Head of the Numismatic Society of Liechtenstein.

The IBNS Mosaic Chapter table is a meeting point for collectors, enthusiasts and everyone who shares a passion for banknotes and numismatics. Here, we invite collectors to join the IBNS, exchange ideas, discuss banknote collecting, the Banknote of the Year, the Best African Banknote competition, books, puzzles and many other exciting projects.

Last week, I was honored to join the Numismatic Society of Liechtenstein. I hope this will be the beginning of many more visits, new friendships and valuable connections in this small, beautiful and truly fascinating country.

Sometimes, the smallest countries can open the biggest doors to the world of numismatics. 🇱🇮💶🌍
