Artisan Central Artisan Central is the only English-speaking pre-checked trade directory. Download our Tradespeople Review Checklist https://tinyurl.com/ReviewCheclist

Members are vetted, so potential customers know that they are insured to do what they say they can. We created Artisan Central to fill the need for an online directory of skilled and pre-checked artisans working in France – a unique combination that homeowners have been waiting for. Since our launch in February 2017, we have been inviting artisans who pride themselves on quality workmanship and ex

cellent customer service to apply. We connect homeowners with registered and insured artisans in their area. The website is free for customers to use.

** What makes us different? Artisan Central is the only English speaking pre-checked trade directory. And we actively promote our site and members so that potential customers who are genuinely looking for professionals connect with ours. Artisan Central is a directory where only pre-checked trades can truly stand out. Members do not have to compete with trades who are not sireted or appropriately insured. When potential customers visit Artisan Central, they can make better-informed choices because they know that the trades they want to work with are pre-checked.

** Promoting Artisan Central members
We don’t just host a profile on the Artisan Central website, we actively promote our members at every opportunity and you can see numerous examples on this page. We love promoting and sharing information about our members, their projects, their trade and skills

** Want us to help you grow your business and attract new clients? We have Gold, Silver and Bronze packages at budgets to suit. However, many of our members opt straight for Gold for maximum benefit, particularly as Gold allows YOUR clients to leave reviews about your work, which itself is a great selling point when other potential customers are looking to work with you.

** Contact [email protected] and we will take you through the process.

In the trades, customers aren’t just buying a service.
They’re buying confidence in the person delivering it.

Trust is a currency, and once damaged, it’s hard to recover.

It takes years of early mornings, hard work, honest advice, and consistent standards to build a strong reputation.

But one careless moment can undo it.

For self-employed tradespeople, trust will always be your most valuable asset.

Why do some tradespeople cost more than others in France?
It’s a question homeowners ask more and more, especially when one quote arrives at €250 and another at €600 for seemingly similar work.

Our latest article at Artisan Central explores the difference between:
• a day-rate tradesperson
• and a professionally structured artisan business

This isn’t about criticising microentrepreneurs or creating division within the trades.

It’s about helping homeowners better understand and speaks directly to the many good tradespeople quietly trying to do things properly.

Because often, the real difference between quotes is not simply the work itself… It’s the business structure, responsibility, and long-term accountability sitting behind it.

We suspect many homeowners and good tradespeople will relate to this one :)

One of the biggest traps for English-speaking trades in France is assuming that UK experience equals French compliance. We see it every day: brilliant tradespeople working as "Handymen" (Homme à tout faire) because the bureaucracy for full Artisan status is too high.

The catch? A handyman’s insurance is legally restricted to "elementary" tasks. If they touch your plumbing networks, your electrics, or your roof, they are likely operating outside their insurance scope.

If something goes wrong, "he's a good guy" won't convince your insurance company to pay out. Learn the "Red Flags" of French hiring and why the Décennale is the only document that truly protects your home.

Sharing this so that followers of this page who run businesses, you will need to be aware of this. Anyone with a siren number will need to register with a PDP before September 2026. To understand what this means for you, visit, https://abcaccounting.fr/blog/ and have read of the 3 latest blog posts - very useful!

⚠️ Big Changes for French Businesses: September 1, 2026
If you have a SIREN number in France, the rules for invoicing are changing, and for micro-entrepreneurs, this is a massive shift you cannot afford to ignore. Starting September 2026, even if you don't collect VAT (franchise en base), you are legally required to receive structured electronic invoices. Traditional PDFs sent via email will no longer be valid documents. From your bank fees and professional insurance to software like Canva or Google Workspace, your suppliers will stop sending "papers" and start sending digital data packets to a central directory.

Why this matters now:
Failing to set up a compliant platform to "catch" these invoices isn't just an administrative headache; it’s a major risk. You could face service cuts if you miss payments you didn't know were due, fines of €15 per invoice, and, most importantly, tax audit red flags caused by data mismatches.

For small business owners, getting ahead of this transition sooner rather than later is the only way to ensure your business keeps running smoothly.

Please share with other business owners who need to be aware of these changes so they can take action.

It's important for homeowners to understand the distinction between 'handyman' and 'artisan'. A handyman requires no skill qualification, has strict limitations on the scope of work, and has Professional Civil Liability. Skilled artisans must prove their skills and guarantee their work with Décennale Assurance.

A homeowners guide to understanding what a handyman can and cannot do in your French home, and when you need to use an Artisan.
