Phishing continues to be the number one cause of data breaches and security incidents. This hasn’t changed in years, but due to this more businesses are having to implement stronger email authentication to avoid email spoofing.
Email spoofing is when scammers will mask their email addresses to look like they come from genuine individuals or organizations. They mimic a company’s email address and then contact customers and vendors while posing as that company.
These deceitful practices can lead to severe repercussions for businesses, including damage to reputation and financial losses.
Email authentication is a method to confirm the legitimacy of your email. It involves verifying the server that sends the email and reporting any unauthorized uses of a company’s domain.
Google and Yahoo did already provide some spam filtering but didn’t strictly enforce DMARC policies, but their updated DMARC policies will improve these security measures. As of February 2024, businesses sending over 5,000 emails daily must implement DMARC. Both companies also require SPF and DKIM authentication for businesses sending fewer emails.
This is why email authentication is an important step to ensure the smooth delivery of your business emails.
P.S - no offence Susan 🤣
