Today I was playing the part of "Magnus" the Norwegian oil worker. Or at least, I was the voice of Magnus. 🎙️
It’s a role I’ve returned to a few times now, but the recording process highlighted just how much has changed in the past few years.
I’ve recorded over 2,000 projects now, the post radio side hustle that got a little out of hand a while back... For years, "good audio" meant being tethered to a physical booth or building forts out of hotel duvets to get a usable take. (if only you ever saw some of the setups).
Whilst AI has undoubtedly cost the voice over world enormously, it has at least brought one decent tool. It can now fix a "boxy" room or a difficult recording in ways that would have been impossible a few years ago. Phone/Camera microphone sound distant on your video? Its now all very fixable.
Read about it in my post...

(Image of Magnus created by Gemini. To everyone in Health & Safety: I know, I know. Carlson Drilling’s top employee is wearing yellow reading glasses instead of safety goggles. Fictional characters are rebellious like that. Any other resemblances are strictly coincidental.)
