Advanced technologies have emerged such as marketing automation, account-based marketing (ABM) tools, content management systems (CMS) systems, email marketing, mobile, artificial intelligence (AI), and analytics and reporting tools.

Partner marketing on the other hand has changed very little and the approach and tactics leveraged 15 years ago, such as an over reliance on events and emails, are still deployed today.

As apart of the 'The Hive,' we regularly invite guests to discuss areas we feel our associates may need support or advice. Our accountants Ellacotts provide ongoing support to The Marketing Bee and IR35 continues to be regular topic.

IR35 has been around for a while now in the UK, but we still hear that it’s a top concern, so we wanted to re-share a Hive Live we delivered at the time it was launched to help demystify what IR35 is, and what that means for Freelancers and companies that engage with Contractors.

The aim of the legislation is to ensure that contractors (e.g. freelancers) who work like employees for companies but are paid via an intermediary (e.g. an Agency), pay broadly the same tax and NI as an employee would. And from 6th April last year it became the responsibility of the company receiving services to ensure that their contractors are outside IR35. This was the major shake up to the legislation.

As we’re marketers and not accountants we’d never profess to advise on taxation or legislation, but, as ever, we knew someone who could! So last year, we arranged a Hive Live session with our very own accountants, Ellacotts, where they talked about IR35 and answered any related concerns.
