I saw something this week on one of the networking groups looking for advice - and it seemed to come as a surprise to the lady who was posting itβ¦
Sheβd been hit with quite a threatening email, a proposed court date & a hefty fine - all resulting from a post dating four years previous! π¬
So, what was it about? A copyright infringement! πΈ
The lady was posting about one of her treatments, a treatment which is quite hard to photograph, so she had saved a picture off google images & used that on her pageβ¦
A simple act, which surely for a small, independent business wouldnβt have any repercussions surely?
Wrong. The company in question had found the image, used without any permission or license & issued her with a legal notice - giving her 14 days to pay a fine in excess of Β£1000, or she would be facing legal action π±
The result? One post, which did not perform well or result in any bookings, cost her any potential revenue she could have made π’
A simple reverse image search on Google, done by a company who are running audits for unauthorised usage, can reveal where their image is used & by who in literally seconds.
Just remember, ANYTHING posted on the internet, including social media platforms, can be found - even dating back yearsβ¦
