A huge congratulations to Daisy Hill Cricket Club 2nd XI, who have finished their season as League Winners for 2026!

An incredible achievement and a testament to the hard work, commitment, and team spirit shown throughout the year.

From juniors coming through the ranks to seniors leading from the front, it’s been a standout season across the club — and this title is the perfect way to round it off.👏

Well done to every player, coach, volunteer, and supporter who’s been part of the journey.

🏏💚 WHAT AN INCREDIBLE FUNDRAISING EFFORT FROM WESTHOUGHTON CRICKET CLUB! 💚🏏

A huge well done to everyone at Westhoughton Cricket Club for their remarkable fundraising efforts for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The club has raised an amazing £4,416.50 for the charity — an incredible amount that will help support people and families affected by cancer. 👏💚

From the players and volunteers to everyone who took part in the fundraising events, donated, sponsored and supported the club — this is what community spirit is all about. 🙌

Westhoughton Cricket Club continues to show that a local sports club can make a real difference both on and off the field.

🏅 BOLTON CIVIC MEDAL NOMINATIONS NOW OPEN!

Westhoughton is full of people who quietly make a massive difference - and now’s the moment to give them the recognition they deserve.

Nominations are officially open for the Bolton Civic Medals, the borough’s highest honour celebrating local heroes who go above and beyond for their community.

Last year’s recipients included community champions, youth leaders, veterans’ supporters, and even a 'Nob End Run Club' founder, proving just how diverse and inspiring our borough truly is.

If you know someone with a real connection to Bolton who deserves recognition for their hard work, kindness, or service, you can nominate them online:

REMEMBERING COUNCILLOR DAVID CHADWICK’S DEDICATION TO OUR TOWN

Our town is mourning the loss of Cllr David Chadwick, a long‑serving and deeply respected figure in Westhoughton and across Bolton.

Cllr Chadwick, who passed away this morning at the age of 82, dedicated more than three decades of his life to public service.

First elected to Bolton Council in 1998, he represented Westhoughton South for many years and previously served as Mayor of Westhoughton.

He held numerous roles during his long career, including Executive Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, Chair of Licensing, Chief Whip, and service on several scrutiny committees.

His commitment to the community was widely recognised, and in 2025/26 he served as Mayor of Bolton, a role he carried out with warmth, humour, and dedication.

Born and bred in the borough, David was known as a “Bolton lad through‑and‑through,” someone who cared deeply about the people he represented.

Tributes today describe him as a passionate advocate for Westhoughton, a devoted public servant, and a man who always put his community first.

Our thoughts are with his wife Valerie, his children Matthew and Victoria, and his grandchildren Henry, Olive, Spencer and Ari at this very sad time. A life of service, remembered with gratitude.

🏫 SECONDARY SCHOOL OPEN EVENINGS 🏫

If you've got a child in Year 5 or Year 6 and you're starting to think about secondary school for September 2027, there are several local open evenings coming up.

Here are three options worth putting in the diary:

🐄 Westhoughton High School
📅 Wednesday 23rd September
⏰ 4pm–7.30pm

An opportunity for prospective pupils and families to visit the school, look around and find out more about life at Westhoughton High.

🏫 Rivington & Blackrod High School
📅 Thursday 24th September
⏰ 5pm–8pm

Families can explore the school and grounds, meet staff and pupils, take part in activities and hear from the Headteacher. Registration is required in advance.

🏫 Outwood Academy Hindley
📅 Thursday 1st October
⏰ 4pm–7pm

Another local option for families considering secondary schools, with the opportunity to visit the academy and meet the team.

📚 Choosing a secondary school is a big decision, so these evenings are a great chance to see the schools for yourself, ask questions and get a feel for what each one offers.

🏫 WESTHOUGHTON HIGH SCHOOL — HAVE YOUR SAY 💬

Westhoughton High School has reopened for the new school year under Northern Education Trust, following its move out of local authority control.

With the new term now underway, we want to hear directly from the people who know the school best - parents, carers and pupils.

There have been reports from parents and carers of a significant number of suspensions/exclusions since the school reopened, including one claim that at least 16 young people have been excluded. These figures have not been independently verified by This Is Westhoughton, so we're particularly interested in hearing about people's own experiences.

• How are the new rules and expectations being received?
• What do pupils think of the changes?
• Have communications with parents improved?
• What has your overall experience been so far?
• And, importantly, do you think the changes are having a positive or negative impact?
