Strategy over volume, every single time.

I will absolutely die on this hill because so many businesses are convinced they need to post every day to be seen, when in reality, continuously churning out meaningless content is a panic response when you aren’t sure how to show up effectively on social media.

What actually matters is having a strong strategy, clear branding, high quality content and consistently showing up intentionally.

Take my carpentry client as proof. This was a tiny account with a very small audience. We only posted twice per week, but it was enough, because every post was strategic and intentional.

His content started gaining serious local attention because It was built around a concrete strategy, simple but effective branding, and high quality visuals from our content shoot together.

Bam, his social media took off!

This is exactly why strong social media strategy and content shoots are so important. We are creating a bank of intentional, high quality content that can be shaped around your brand, your ideal audience and your goals.

You do not need to post every day and burn yourself out, but there does need to be purpose behind what you post.

AI is getting out of hand and people are getting lazy with it!

I’m not saying I write every strategy and piece of content from scratch with a candle, a quill and a dramatic ocean view, because I DON’T.

I, along with most social media managers and business owners I know, use AI to support our work in one way or another.

The difference is whether you are using it strategically as a tool, or letting it completely run wild on your business and weaken your authenticity, opinions and unique flair.

Your audience can absolutely tell when your caption has been ripped straight from ChatGPT or Claude without a second glance. It probably includes one or more of these AI don’ts, and likely has not an ounce of your personality or authentic brand voice left in it.

It is no coincidence that you suddenly write all of your posts and captions using the same formats, words and patterns as every other professional in your industry. Sorry for the hard truth!

Absolutely use AI to help support your work in an effective way, but please don’t let it completely obliterate what makes you, YOU.

Your audience needs your real, human lived experience. They need what makes you unique, your journey, your humour, your context and all of the things that make your business undeniably the RIGHT choice for them.

Only YOU hold the power to gain their trust wholeheartedly, and if you don’t even trust your expertise without AI, then how on earth will they?

In a world that’s constantly churning out meaningless AI drivel, let’s remember why we do what we do, and how to successfully operate our businesses with the support of AI, but without it completely taking over and turning everyone off.

You can’t expect 2026 results on Instagram if you’re still posting like it’s 2019.

A LOT has changed. The way content is categorised, distributed and discovered has evolved massively.

If your posting habits haven’t evolved too, you’ll feel stuck, invisible or like you’re doing everything “right” but still not seeing results.

Here’s what’s shifted


Discovery is no longer hashtag dominant.
In 2019, reach relied heavily on hashtags. Now Instagram works far more like a search engine. It reads your content, captions, on-screen text and profile keywords to understand what your content is about and who it should be shown to.

The algorithm is interest-based.
Content is distributed based on predicted relevance. That includes watch time, retention, engagement behaviour and how clearly your content signals its topic. If your message is vague, it’s harder for Instagram to place you correctly.

Format and behaviour have evolved.
Square posts aren’t the dominant format anymore. Portrait content aligns better with how people consume the app. Feed posts can be 4:5. Reels are 9:16, full screen.
Your profile grid preview is closer to a 3:4 crop, so keep key visuals centre to avoid cropping in your main grid.
Reels and retention-focused carousels dominate because they match user behaviour.

Retention is important.
It’s not just about how things look. It’s about whether people stay, watch, share and engage. Clean visuals matter, but clarity matters more.

Users actively shape their feeds.
People choose what they see through activity and algorithm preferences. If your content doesn’t align with what your audience wants consume, it’s far less likely to be shown.

There’s also more competition now.
More brands, creators, noise.

If your strategy still relies on:

Hashtag stuffing
Posting and hoping
Generic captions
Aesthetic over clarity
