A condensed look at my Concept to Reality project with Spark Design Academy ✏️ featuring and inspired by Yeovil Town FC ⚽️

This project explores the journey from research and narrative through to illustration, mock-ups, and physical production, translating an idea into something wearable.

The full project goes much deeper, but this highlights the key concepts and decisions that shaped the final outcome. A genuinely educational and transformative experience.

Is it the future of design or a human touch that makes a brand truly come alive? A lot of my clients have been using AI to design for them, not understanding what a designer actually does and the impact designers have in branding, so while I’ve been experimenting with blending typography and wearable art using the extrusion effect, does AI have the creative spark to make a brand’s identity?

A logo should do more than look good and be aesthetically pleasing; it should have meaning. My logo has many subtle meanings, from using Teal to represent trust, creativity, and openness values. The natural fiddling of a pen or pencil to show the working of the idea for a client, showing the importance of a unique logo, and also the upward mark of the bottom of a digital hand to show the digital art in my designs. Because in design, meaning is essential.

To even say, "Think one logo is enough?" Think again...
A strong brand needs a flexible and adaptable identity. From favicons, footers, inverts, posters, and packaging. Every platform has its own variation, which means its own sizes, its own composition, and a brand's way to stand out.

has classic retro halftone print textures to a cute and joyful mascot illustration, Ronnie’s Pizza nails what a brand identity should be - cohesive, character-driven, and impossible to forget.

Menus, packaging, pint glasses... This brand's identity is consistent through every touchpoint. It's not just fun, it's professional. And that’s the kind of branding that sticks in people’s minds (and stomachs).

More UK businesses could benefit from this level of design commitment. It’s more than a logo, it’s a whole identity. More personality and individuality in branding, especially for small, stand-alone businesses, could raise the bar and create a healthier, creative rivalry on our local high streets.

In a secluded area in the streets of Hongdae, Your Mind is an independent bookstore that is filled with creative prints. From self-published zines and risograph prints to colour theory booklets and photography-led shutter speed zines, this little shop shows amazing handmade, crafted designs.

It doesn't matter whether you're a Designer, Illustrator, or just someone who appreciates visual identity. Your Mind is a shop that can help with your inspiration or widen your view on directions with new projects.

One of the best discoveries I made in Seoul, which I highly recommend if you love design that's raw, real and rooted in creative expression

I tried to experience as much as I could during my time in Seoul. Everything from cool pizza character mascots to Son Heung-min on café ads, plus a colour-packed mini book documenting tones for specific illustrations (hex codes included 😍 🎨).

Mascot branding, smart packaging, and an expansive colour-coded set book, Korea's world in design is expansive, fluent in illustration and not too dissimilar to the UK.

If I could take any of this back with me to the UK, the use of Illustration and branding for even small local businesses is immense. So much choice in a competitive market for even just one local back street... There's not enough expression for smaller businesses to expand like Seoul's businesses are. We need this.

Poster or Imposter?

Design isn’t just about what looks good on a screen or on print, but it’s also about what feels right in real life. A.I. like ChatGPT can create a layout fast, sure. But can it understand the right message? The personality behind your message? The 'why' behind a business? (I will also not change faces in images unless asked to... 🥴)

A poster designed by a brand designer isn’t just an aesthetic visual; it’s a conversation with the audience. A designer considers the client, the vibe, and the people you want to reach.

When static design can’t say it all, motion speaks louder, as an extension of a brand’s voice. Animation adds emotion, a narrative, and depth, whether it’s a logo reveal, a social post, or a subtle movement.

Not all designers use animation, it's not a necessity, but it is an extra to peak for focus with preaching a brand's identity.

Motion can do a lot when static design can’t say it all.
