Peas in a Podcast brings together the farmers, bakers, beekeepers, and food makers at the heart of our local food community to talk honestly about what’s working, what’s hard, and what we can all do to make good food healthy, sustainable, and accessible for everyone.

In the first episode of Peas in a Podcast, host Joey Clarkson of Jurassic Coast Media sits down with Lucinda Ackland, the passionate and warmhearted force behind Modbury Farm Shop in the Bride Valley. Lucinda shares the unexpected story of how she and her husband Tim came to run the shop, not through business plans or bank loans, but through trust, love, and a deep belief that good soil is the foundation of everything.

I hit a bump in the road this weekend and allowed it to completely change the course I was on, for the better... and I thought I’d take you along for a bit of it!

A few of you may remember that I had the pleasure of facilitating the recording of a live podcast for Bridport Food Matters at the Bridport Food Festival earlier this summer. From the get-go we knew that this would be a more grass roots approach, as I was volunteering my time and had the roles of live sound engineer, videographer and podcast host (for 2 episodes) to take on. It was a lot to stay on top of throughout the day, definitely too much for one person, but it was also a lot of fun!

Fast forward to now as I’m working my way through the material we captured, and I was hit with complete disappointment when I discovered that an audience member had sat directly in front of the one camera we had set up to capture the interview, and had blocked our guest Modbury Farm Shop from view… for nearly the entirety of Episode 1.

There is absolutely no shade to this audience member by the way, the camera was tiny and it would have been entirely possible to not see it - especially when the person operating it was sitting on stage paying full attention to the guest they were interviewing!

My fix? I took a trip over to Modbury yesterday to gather some B-Roll footage to cover it up!

It was a good challenge, and a really nice change of pace to what I’m usually capturing.

More often than not: I’m chasing people around with a camera trying to document organic moments as they happen. Yesterday, I got to take my time with setting up shots and optimizing settings. It was a wonderful break, even though it was still technically work.
