A little jamjama summer social ☀️

We started with drinks at Pearly Cow before heading to Pier Pressure for Loot in the Lanes.
One diamond recovered with just under an hour on the clock. 💎

Then we wrapped things up at Patio, sharing a mix of small plates including boquerones with orange and harissa, pan con tomate with anchovy and melba toast, labneh, curing rebels spreadable salami, balsamic with olive oil and bread, and some gildas.

A good afternoon away from our desks, with plenty of food, a bit of healthy competition and even better company.

Three voices, one honest conversation about the real cost of craft.

At last week’s Best Before Event, moderated by Tom Zahir (Decatur), the panel didn’t hold back.

Liam Cotter (Voya) on doing a tight menu brilliantly instead of chasing constant change. Mandy Yin on the real economics behind closing Sambal Shiok this May, after over a decade of from-scratch laksa. Matt Paice (Chishuru) on sourcing, wine, and why Chishuru’s limited Nigerian grill nights work because they come from a genuine story, not a trend.

Our takeaway: craft has a cost, and the best places are the ones being honest about it.
And a shout out to Barbino for the food on the night. Pastilla of cinnamon duck, North African pickles, gildas of olive, anchovy and chilli, falafel with smoked hummus and crunchy cabbage, plus a Mediterranean small plates pop up from CinCin.

Genuinely tasty stuff, and a fitting menu for a room talking about doing things properly.
