I knew joining Wookey Hole would be a bit different, then I saw my boss make someone disappear 😳

That's one way to get rid of an under performing employee! šŸ˜‚

This is Magique, the magic and illusions show that Sarah my boss and several of my talented colleagues have been performing for years. I honestly work with the most wonderful and talented people. They perform each Wednesday evening during the school holidays.

As a child Sarah grew up in the circus. She remembers an elephant stealing her dummy and later standing on the back of galloping horses with Polly her sister and Willie - both of whom are Directors of Wookey Hole today.

Sarah has been planning to retire from her circus duties for the past five years…

I had a voice note from her recently telling me that she couldn't change a Teams meeting date, but she could make someone disappear, rise a horse standing up bare back, make candy floss….I guess you can't be good at everything!

Duty Manager today at Wookey Hole and I’ve taken my daughter to work.

When I think back to some of the first offices I worked at, it was very different - accountants, recruitment agencies, factories.
The formality, the uncomfortable clothes, the heels šŸ™ˆ

So lucky to work in the visitor economy and especially Wookey Hole. šŸ’« She doesn’t known quite how lucky she is.

She’s doing a great job, picking stuff up quickly to be fair. She’ll go far.
Let’s hope she’s not as cheeky/forthright to her future boss šŸ™„šŸ¤£

We are actually on the hunt for a marketing apprentice so if you know someone who is prepared to travel to Wookey Hole and work in our marketing team doing a level 3 Apprenticeship, pls ask them to check the Wookey hole website. Deadline 7 August 26.

Training this morning for next week’s Dragon Boat race on Bristol Harbourside.

Thanks to our team leaders Nikki and Emma from for bringing us together.

If you’re going, we are the ā€˜Red Hot Rowers’ wearing yellow and red in a form of Bay Watch get up.

Never worked so hard on a Sunday morning😳

With an awesome group of ladies who have never done this before but I know we’re going to smash it!

We’re raising money for the Lord Mayors charity.

Would be grateful for any donations no matter how small šŸ™

Sat having my breakfast at the Wookey Hole Hotel looking out at this grey day.

Currently reading Steve Reed’s book Poor on the Moor - based on his life growing up in Newcastle.

Have you got your copy yet?

For those who don’t know him, Steve is a coach and group tour organising legend, although I’m sure many of you in the industry know him. He is also one of the kindest people I’ve ever met.

Laughing and crying in equal measure at Poor on the Moor.

Steve, I’m gripped by your story, you write so well - for a lad born in Cowgate 😜

Made me laugh when you talked about your first dog Major who used to roam the streets- as many dogs did. And how your parents sent him out with a note tied to his neck to tell you ā€˜tea’s ready’, and he’d come and find you!

This is how I developed my fear of German Shepard’s when I was bitten by one roaming the streets. Wonder when this dog roaming rule was changed? Can you imagine today with so many cars on the streets!

God I sound like I grew up in black and white. Times have changed so fast.

We’ve recently returned from a holiday in Sharm el Sheikh Egypt.

We’d booked this trip back in September 2025 way before the US military attack happened, and Iran started retaliating, targeting tourist hot spots in the Middle East like Dubai and Abu Dhabi. 😩

So, we had to make a big decision, as many friends and family were questioning why we were going.

We didn’t want to take a risk but there were also no foreign office warnings against going, so we weren’t going to get our money back if we’d pulled out.

Aargh what to do!

So we went and luckily had a lovely, trouble free holiday - apart from the dodgy stomachs!

According to my research, Eygpt currently remains a ā€˜neutral mediator’ in the ongoing talks and its tourism economy hasn’t been as affected as I imagined.

Whereas the Dubai and Abu Dhabi tourism economies have lost billions. 😢

As of yesterday 2 May, the UAE air space is back open, but who knows what’s to come with so many crazy leaders at the helm.

So if you’ve booked or are thinking of going go to Eygpt, this was our experience.

Here’s a fact: 90% of people who live in Sharm are employed in or linked to the tourism sector. People travel in from across the country to work six days a week to earn a regular salary. Their work ethic and hospitality is exceptional. Big appreciation goes out to all the visitor elves there!

But if you’ve decided not to go abroad this year check out Wookey Hole (hotel or lodges with hot tubs) and spend a week exploring Somerset! The Somerset coast can be wonderful too even if you can see the fish, the sand is gorgeous! šŸ˜‚

We stayed at the Jaz Mirabel Park at Sharm el Sheikh and travelled with Tui.
