What is a metaverse? Well, for now, the definition is still evolving. It can be described as a shared online world (or worlds) where creators, individuals and brands come together via products, experiences or commerce in an immersive or 3D way. However, it goes further than AR or VR wearable technology and is expected to cross all devices and screen types.

Instagram’s Mosseri describes the metaverse as an ‘immersive internet’ where you’re ‘in it not on it’. Although the recent spike in interest in the metaverse is due to Facebook’s name change, it will not be central to one company, technology or platform. It is too big for that.

In truth, most of us are already living a partial virtual existence, whether that’s using zoom for work or social apps for pleasure. It’s also already possible to shop for digital art (NFTs anyone?), virtual goods or trade in digital currency. There are many spaces and opportunities for a metaverse, almost too many for the lines to yet be defined.

It’s estimated that the average Britain is exposed to between 6,000 and 10,000 ads and sponsored messages a day. This is a significant rise relative to average numbers of 500 a day in the 1970s - with technology, the internet and specifically social media playing a huge part of this.

So, as a brand, how do you make your message stand out? Here are our top 3 tips:

1. Choose platforms where your audience will be. Each platform has its own culture, demographic, and purpose.

2. Create content that educates, entertains or inspires. Your consumer is more likely to elect to engage or share content that provides them with value.

3. Consider paid ads. Sometimes your organic reach is not enough and this is where paid social advertising can help. Ad spending in the social media advertising segment is expected to reach $153 billion worldwide in 2021.

You have double the power to connect with someone and stop a scroller in their tracks if you pair a strong caption with your visual component. Here are our top 3 tips on how to write captions:

1. Grab attention but stay true to your brand voice. Captions are often playful, employing emojis, slang or viral trends, but consider whether that is right for you and your audience.
2. How much should you say?Sometimes a snappy one-liner is all that’s needed and sometimes your message may require more length or context for story-telling. If that’s the case, take care with formatting and ensure your first few lines are engaging to make the reader want to stay on.
3. Finally direct the reader - use a call to action. Ask the reader to message you, comment or head to your link in bio etc.

Generally, the longer someone stops on your post, reading or engaging with you (yes they measure that!), the better you rank in algorithms. To find out more about captions, get in touch.
