What a week! I’ve come away from convinced yet again that the business, creativity and collaboration can, and will, be a force for good.

I know when I started KV Comms, I firmly believed that not all businesses had to follow a damaging capitalist extractive ideology. Fast forward 15 years and it’s no longer the few outliers that hold that ‘nice to have’ belief but a growing ‘we must do better’ rebellion, particularly as we are all affected by geopolitical, financial and social volatility.

SXSW London is unlike other events I’ve encountered - where the minds from business, innovation, culture come together with a clear and shared understanding that change and innovation is a necessity but we hold the power and responsibility to reimagine something better, and what will that look like. Curiosity, creativity, collaboration and community are the key to ensuring better business and society.

From business greats, passionate activists, incredible minds and talent to royalty, this week has been an excellent insight and learning which I’ll break down and share across more content, in workshops and with clients.

And of course, let’s not forget the gold we find - from chats in the queue, in between talks, during coffee breaks or at events - when we connect with other brilliant like minded people.

Thanks you for the conversations, moments and highlights and can’t wait to see what you put out in the world.

For years, PR was optimised around the focus of the time.

Media cycles.
Celebrity culture.
Clicks.
Algorithms.
Attention and Influence
Now - AI-readable content.

We’ve spent years jumping through the hoops of relevancy, but visibility alone doesn’t build trust, connection or long-term growth.

At the same time, we’re experiencing trust erosion, emotional disconnection, performative branding, and fatigue from constant noise and extraction.

The future belongs to businesses building something more meaningful:

Humanity in business.
Shared values.
Trust.
Connection.
Community.

That doesn’t mean rejecting AI, search or visibility. It means building stronger foundations underneath them.
Businesses grounded in clarity, trust and aligned communication won’t need to work so hard to stay relevant.

Glorious Monday morning in London today. Blue skies and the city at its fairest 😍

Visited with its gorgeous design and riverside views, and the for breakfast with the fab

I credit Will for giving me my first hard lesson in media pitching many many moons ago.

I was spoiled with my previous consumer PR experience working with brands, particularly those who could afford celebrity endorsement, media wanted to work with the agency and its clients. This PR lark was easy, I thought.

When I moved to travel PR my job was to offer journalists all expenses paid travel to worldwide destinations so they could write about their experiences. Seriously? This was my job??

However Will shot down all our invites - he couldn’t use one pitch!

It didn’t matter how formidable the destination, the angle had to be relevant, fresh and topical to the title and its readers.

That lesson stayed with me, especially as media pressure and demands have evolved over the years since.

Media relations is the skilled blend of strong storytelling and laser sharp pitching. It doesn’t matter ‘who you know’, it’s the ability to understand each media title, its requirements and focus and pitch accordingly.

20 years later, I love that Will and I are still swapping and sharing stories and forever grateful for the grounded schooling that I took forward through my career.

As he continues to write travel features for an array of national titles, he’s also sharing London’s fascinating history as a tour guide. Forever the storyteller 😉

Coming out of hibernation and meeting people in the real world feels good. My 2026 calendar is booked with some great events, with a couple more tentative dates to confirm.

As a solo founder, I’m really grateful for the people and support around me. It’s often hard to express the pressures of trying to spin so many plates, so I always enjoy meeting like-minded business owners and sharing insights, learnings and successes.

There are brilliant groups and networks out there but when I think about those I’ve really connected with, it’s the creatives, founders and entrepreneurs.

The ones with a curious and creative mindset, not just delivering services or products but creating active solutions or something new entirely.

It’s how I’ve approached my business model, and why I’ve been so inspired by the clients I’ve enjoyed working with.

Yesterday I took time out to experience an taster event before the main event in September this year.

Message me if you’re going or tips if you’ve been before. It’s been pitched as Glastonbury for business, although yours truly will not be camping this time.

Enjoyed mixing in a little co-working at and conversations and intros at Ideas Fest Encore. Always inspired by the new solutions and creative ideas out there.

Great day to be out and about in London, let’s hope the sun is kind to us again in September when we’re meeting again in a field!

It’s a hard truth we need to accept — no one is coming to save us.

We’re not just running businesses — we’re the ones building the future.
And how we do that, together, has never mattered more.

As Darwin said: It’s not the strongest who survive, but the most adaptable to change.

The world is shifting again.

Tech and AI are rewriting the rules. The noise is maddening. The pressure is relentless.

And still, the real world burns: political chaos, economic imbalance, social division, leadership failure.

We’re not just asking why — we’re asking why does this keep happening?

The systems are breaking because they were broken to begin with.

We’re at a crossroads. And it’s not about choosing a path — it’s about creating a new one.

One that sparks new solutions, opens up fresh opportunities, and ripples out into our teams, communities, markets — and society.

We are the cycle breakers.

Rebels, misfits, and disruptors: this is your moment.

Say no.

And then build what needs to exist.

We don’t need stronger systems.
We need braver leaders.

Not those who chase power. But those willing to share it — and build it, together.

So take a leaf out of Darwin’s book:
Adapt and create.

The next evolution is up to us.

Humanity in business isn’t optional. It’s essential.

🚀 Tag a fellow rebel we should learn from.
🔁 Follow to learn how PR strategy and comms fuel visionary leadership and meaningful change.

Hello again to those who know me and a warm welcome to anyone who's recently followed this page.

It's been very quiet (and sporadic) on this feed as I took the time to build out a better business, inside and out, so time for a re-introduction.

I'm Kristel Valaydon, founder of KV Comms which I started 14 years ago as part dare/part rage (true story).

I was fed up with how agencies worked. It was so rigid and, at times, unethical. There had to be a better way to work sustainably and in 'partnership' with our clients to drive phenomenal results that make a positive impact.

KV Comms has worked with a wide range of businesses and team leaders, from global and UK corporations, organisations, SMEs and start-ups. Our brand marketing, comms and PR approach has delivered breakout success for clients. So time to practice what I preach and follow my own advice!

💥 I noticed a pattern emerge with our approach, our favourite types of clients, but specifically their challenges and how we best support them. This supported our refreshed BRANDING project.

💥We recognise what pains our clients, the same cycles they go through and where we've had to challenge them the most to maximise and optimise their results and reach their aligned business and marketing goals. This drove our MARKETING strategy.

💥 We looked at who we needed to find and how to nurture and develop those relationships further for a deeper meaningful experience. This shaped our COMMS, PR & COMMUNITY strategy and plan.

Why? To support visionaries, those game-changers, changemakers, rebels and misfits with a strategic vision for better business that positively impacts others.

When you know better, you do better. I look forward to sharing more in this next phase to help reevaluate and reimagine how connection in comms can help build community and drive business success.

This is and always will be a two-way conversation and you're always welcome to pop me any questions about the above in the comments or through DMs, but for now, hello!

KV Comms today celebrates its 13th anniversary. Contrary to belief – 13 is said to bring good luck and prosperity. It represents a shift in cycles – celebrating the end of one era and the start of something new.

The company is moving into a new phase as the business has evolved and we’re excited to tease a sneak peek of something that’s been 13 years in the making.

When KV Comms was founded it was with one aim – to learn how we could better support our clients and, whilst standing up against what we felt was wrong in our industry, work together with clients in a mutually beneficial partnership.

As the years have progressed, we’ve learnt what really drives us and it’s a simple belief that better business is not only achievable but sustainable and impactful.
With so much room for improvement, we need more fellow rebels, mavericks and misfits to cause some positive disruption.

It’s time to be bold, unapologetic and radical and looking forward to stepping out of our comfort zone and unveiling the next phase for KV Comms in the next couple of weeks.

Women's Health - Paving The Way To Brighter Futures

We did a mini-series on Small Business Chat focussing on Women's Health covering topics like Endometriosis, Menopause and PCOS.

The figures affecting women, business, and our economy is astounding and yet we have still very little awareness, resources, research and patient care.

We welcomed back the inspiring Leila Martyn from MyOva - who started her business having suffered with PCOS, and is today driving for better education and understanding in schools for PCOS and endometriosis. By normalizing and empowering young women (and men) with knowledge, together we can ensure that they receive the support they need.

Also, watch the video as we discuss:
- The importance of early-stage awareness for both PCOS and Endometriosis
- Learning to advocate for yourself
- The process Leila is undergoing to impact positive change and key learnings.

**** Trigger Warning **** talks of pregnancy, pregnancy loss and cancer.

As we're searching for financial advice for our businesses, we discuss why it would be wise to review our personal finances too.

We speak with Casey Goodwin from Path Financial, the UK's first Independent Financial Adviser firm set up to tackle the climate crisis. The B Corp registered business provides quality financial planning advice whilst being at the forefront of making a positive financial impact in the world.

Today we talk about the imbalance when it comes to women and finance today from the gender pay gap to the pension gap.

Encouraging conversations and learning from Path Financial allows us to move from ceding control to seeding positive change - allowing women to regain, retain financial choice, freedom, power and purpose.

We round off our Women’s Health in Business series with an inspiring business owner story.

With 1 in 10 women suffering from PCOS worldwide, PCOS a major health concern with little known awareness. In fact, 50% of women are unaware they have it.

After five years of recurrent miscarriage coupled with bouts of infertility, Leila Martyn decided enough was enough. Fed up hearing ‘it’s just bad luck’ from doctors, she took matters into her own hands and started researching how her own health conditions could be attributed to her difficulty trying to conceive.

Suffering from PCOS all her adult life, she understood the implications that PCOS could have on her fertility and through her research, stumbled across a B-type vitamin called myo-inositol which showed promising results for those living with PCOS.

Leila launched whilst pregnant with her eldest son, and it is her mission to raise awareness and remove the stigma around PCOS.

We'll be talking with Leila about her business journey on Wednesday 22nd June at 10 am. Watch live or catch the replay here:
