Why did I become a virtual assistant?
…and what is a virtual assistant or VA?
A virtual assistant is someone who provides you with administration support virtually.
Catherine Gladwyn has a great definition
“A Virtual Assistant is someone who provides services to other business owners on an ad hoc, or retained basis, from a remote location…"
So now we know what it is, why did I decide to become one?
Well, put simply, I enjoy helping people.
I have a degree in library and information science and have kept up with my professional development as a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals and the Federation of Informatic Professionals in health and social care.
My career spans administration support for a funeral director, across libraries in different sectors, to e-learning advisor and account/relationship management in post-16 education.
And the recurring theme? What I enjoyed most about these roles? Helping people find information, organise that information, and present the information in a useful way - making their lives just a little bit easier.
Plus my mum says I'm patient and good at explaining technical knowledge well.
The Japanese call it Ikigai, helping people is just my reason for being.
I'm also a co-director in business with my husband Sam Cook at Tremio Aerial Photography. I don't have the same creative eye as him so provide administration support; so I understand the complexity and pressure of running your own business.
I'll still be working as a relationship manager full-time (for now) but can help you with
*Email and diary management
*Research
*Content writing
