I love a little embroidered extra as much as the next person - bows, flowers, pumpkins, dinosaurs… give me an excuse and I’ll probably add it. 😂

But sometimes?

Just their name is enough.

Their name. Their colour. A jumper that is completely theirs.

And I think I’ll always have a soft spot for the really simple ones. 🤍

Especially because these are the ones that seem to become the everything jumpers - nursery, park, lunch out, thrown in the buggy, pulled on again tomorrow.

Simple. Personal. Made to actually be worn. 🧵

I’m very good at making plans for everyone else.

Days out with the kids. Play dates. Lunches. Appointments. Things they’ll enjoy. Things we’ll remember.

And I love doing all of it.

But I’ve realised I’m much less likely to put something in the diary that is just for me.

Not because I don’t want to. There’s just always something else that feels more important.

Which is probably part of the reason Sip, Stitch & Switch Off has become so much more than an embroidery workshop to me.

Yes, you come and make a jumper.

But you also get two hours where you’ve already decided that this time is yours.

Someone else can do bedtime (even if you have to rope in Nanny like me). The washing can wait. Nobody needs you to be productive.

You can have a drink, sit down, make something with your hands, chat to other women and switch your brain off for a bit.

And perhaps the reason I keep banging on about making time for yourself is because I need reminding too. 🤍

So no, this isn’t me telling you that you need another hobby.

It’s your reminder that you’re allowed to put yourself in the diary sometimes too. 🧵

And if two hours of stitching and switching off sounds like exactly what you need, December still has spaces. 🤍

Things I genuinely don’t care about when you come to one of my workshops…

Whether you’ve ever picked up a needle before.
Whether you come on your own.
Whether your stitches are wonky.
Whether your colours “go” together.
Whether you have to ask me to show you again.
And again.
And again.
Whether I have to unpick your stitches when something goes wrong.
Whether you accidentally wander completely off the template.
Whether you spend half the evening chatting instead of stitching.
Whether you finish your jumper before you leave.
Whether you message me from your sofa two days later because you’ve forgotten what I showed you.

And I definitely don’t care if yours looks completely different to the one next to you.

There’s no test. No prize for the neatest stitches. And absolutely no expectation that you already know what you’re doing.

Come, have a drink, learn something new, make something you love and switch off for a couple of hours.

That’s quite literally the point. 🪡

When I say your workshop jumper is personalised… I really do mean it. 😂

One of my upcoming Sip, Stitch & Switch Off guests asked if she could have neon yarn.

Did I have neon yarn? No.

Did I then spend far too long hunting down the right shade and somehow end up with THREE options for her to choose from?

Obviously. 😂🩷🧡💚

Because you’re not coming to a Thread & Ted workshop to make my jumper.

You’re coming to make yours.

Your person. Your design. Your colours. 🧵

And apparently, if the colour you want isn’t already in my yarn stash… I’ll take that as a personal challenge. 😂

So — which neon are you choosing?

🩷 Pink
🧡 Orange
💚 Green

When I started Thread & Ted, I thought it would be about making things for other people.

Then a few months ago, I decided to try something different.

And I was terrified. 😂

Taking something I’d only ever done quietly at home and turning it into a room full of people, with me standing at the front actually teaching them how to do it, felt like a pretty enormous leap.

I genuinely had no idea whether anyone would book. Whether people would enjoy it. Whether I’d be any good at it. Or whether I’d spend two hours wondering what on earth I’d got myself into. 😅

But that first Sip, Stitch & Switch Off changed something.

I stopped just making things for you, and started helping you make them too.

And somehow, a few months later, this is what my inbox looks like. 🥹

Every booking notification still gives me a little buzz. Every sold-out workshop feels slightly ridiculous. And seeing people come back, bring their friends and tell other people about these evenings means more than I can properly put into an Instagram caption.

So this isn’t a selling post.

It’s just a little thank you for showing up. 🤍

For booking that first workshop when I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. For coming back. For telling your friends. And for trusting me while I figured out what Thread & Ted could become.

Turns out, taking the scary little leap was a pretty good idea. 🧵🤍

For the last four years, Mondays have been ours. 🤍

Mummy Mondays started when Ted was tiny. Just the two of us, finding somewhere to go, something crafty to do, always involving snacks… and later, a balance bike.

Last Monday we went back to one of our favourite little routes along the seafront. The same place we’d walked since he was two.

He’s bigger now. Faster. More independent. He can put the straw in his own juice, choose his own ice cream and ride so far ahead that I’m forever telling him to wait for me.

But he still has to stand on his tiptoes to see the water over the sea defences. 🥹

So I took the photos. I filmed the completely ordinary bits. We ate lunch, got ice cream, threw stones in the sea and I tried very hard not to think about the fact that this was our last Mummy Monday before school.

Because I know there are so many lovely things waiting for him in this next chapter.

But bloody hell, I’m going to miss this one. 🤍

You’ve got a friend in me, Ted. Always.

Imagine if you could make them the perfect gift…

Max turned 4 this weekend, and when I saw his party invitation I knew exactly what I wanted to make him.

A jumper inspired by the little critters on his invite, designed completely from scratch and stitched by hand just for him. 🧵

A tiny owl perched on top of the M
A snake winding through the A.
And a little hedgehog scampering under the X.

Then, after around three hours of stitching, came the part that makes me nervous EVERY. SINGLE. TIME…

Into the washing machine it went. 😬

Does my embroidery ever unravel? No.
Do I still spend the entire wash imagining three hours of work floating around in tiny pieces? Obviously. 😂

Thankfully, Max emerged completely intact and ready for his new home.

There’s something pretty special about giving a present that you know nobody else in the world will have. 💙

Turns out, these are the days. 🤍

I had every intention of getting little snippets of our weekend to share on here.

We had a family BBQ on Saturday, a birthday party on Sunday, lots of food, lots of people… and apparently I completely forgot to make any content. 😂

Instead, I have a photo of some ribs, a plate of food… and approximately 400 photos of this face.

And actually? I’m quite pleased about it.

I’ve spent so long feeling like I should always be doing something - stitching something, filming something, posting something, planning the next thing.

This weekend I just… didn’t.

I switched off. I was there for all of it. And the business survived. Instagram survived.

Although clearly I’m still incapable of putting Ophelia in a cute outfit and not taking 400 photos. Some things are sacred. 😂🤍

She’s crawling, pulling herself up on everything, getting into absolutely EVERYTHING and suddenly seeming less like my tiny baby by the day.

Thread & Ted has always existed in amongst all of this too.

So maybe forgetting to create content gave me exactly the content I wanted to remember. 🤍

It’s easy to think the jumper is the point. 🧵

And don’t get me wrong, watching someone go from “I’ve never embroidered before” to holding up something they made themselves will never get old.

But look again.

The chatting. The laughing. The little moments of “LOOK, I did it!”. A couple of hours spent making something with your hands and actually switching off.

The jumper is what you take home.

I’m just not sure it’s always the best bit. 🤍

Sip, Stitch & Switch Off is back on 16 September, and there’s just one space left.
